NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 15 JANUARY 2016 Seah Im is a reticulated python who was found resting on a lamp post at a busy traffic junction. We had calls pouring in from concerned members of the public and the police regarding Seah Im. During our visits, we realised that he was unreachable with the equipment we have on hand. Thankfully the Land Transport Authority – We Keep Your World Moving helped us by immediately sending a crane over, so that our rescue officers could get to Seah I...

Drone Captures Stunning Bird's-Eye Video Of Dolphin Superpod
13th Jan 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

Check out this stunning drone footage of thousands of ‘stampeding’ dolphins travelling together in California. One of the ways this superpod manages to stick together is by listening to one another’s underwater whistles – with dolphins in the front giving instructions to the dolphins in the back! The video also features drone footage of whales, including a mother whale and her calf. What a wonderful way to view wild animals… http://news.nationalgeographic.com/new s/2014/03/140305...

HARRA, OUR GREEN IGUANA ENJOYS HER LUNCH
12th Jan 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

HARRA, OUR GREEN IGUANA ENJOYS HER LUNCH Green iguanas can be shy animals, so we decided to install a camera to capture them eating. Watch as she makes the territorial head bobbing movement at 00:25. We think she meant it at the camera when she noticed a new object in her enclosure. Green iguanas can be picky eaters and Harra is no different, taking her time to pick out the good stuff in her salad of leafy greens, fruits and other vegetables!

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – DO YOUR PART TO END ANIMAL CRUELTY In March 2015, the ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) conducted undercover investigations into the illegal trade in tiger parts in Singapore. This was a follow-up investigation from our previous stint five years ago and we found less than 3% of the shops offended. In May 2015, the ACIU conducted undercover investigations into animal welfare at pet shops and farms selling dogs and/or cats. A startling 83% of farms and 38% o...

RESCUE ROUND UP: 08 JANUARY 2016 1. MacKenzie, the reticulated python was crossing the road and decided to climb under a car for immediate refuge. Thankfully the car owner was very understanding and also concerned for the python. Our rescue team checked to ensure that MacKenzie was not stuck but just hiding in the car. The car owner kindly parked the car near a vegetated area for a whole day and ensured that the python was no longer above the wheel before driving off the next day. 2. Lady Yin...

MEET WATNEY, OUR GREEN IGUANA Watney is our most recently rescued green iguana. A fully grown adult male, he is shy and but pretty strong. Since his stay at ACRES, Watney never showed the ability to climb logs in his enclosure. He kept staying on the ground. As a result, we had to feed him by placing food on the floor. We tried carrying him and putting him on the log but he would always come back down to the ground. However on Sunday, to our delight, Watney was spotted on the high log chillin...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – NATIVE BIRDS DESERVE TO BE TREATED RIGHT Several months ago, we looked into a case where a Mynah had its legs tied to the pole of a mop by a member of the public. The bird was left dangling and struggling for a couple of minutes outside the window of his flat before he released it. We urged members of the public to refrain from harming our native species and provided ways to prevent them from entering your premises. However, it is heartbreaking to receive yet another ...

WE’RE GRATEFUL WHEN KIDS ARE INSPIRED TO HELP THE ANIMALS! A group of Upper Elementary students from the Australian International School raised an impressive $1,500 for ACRES on their own initiative, following a talk given by our Education Team! Sometimes, it really amazes us how youths can be struck with so much inspiration that great actions follow. They make us feel so hopeful and valorous to continue fighting hard for the animals. We know change is happening every single day, no matter h...

LAST WEEK TO HELP OUR CRIME TEAM CONTINUE THEIR WORK! The ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) was launched to fight animal cruelty and wildlife crime head-on. In its first year, it has already been at the forefront of tackling the illegal exotic pet trade, the tiger parts trade, and making sure that pet shops and farms are meeting basic animal welfare standards.
