THANK YOU FOR BEING THEIR VOICE
Someone once shared the following story with us:
“I once dreamt that I was walking in the park with my dog, Spock. He could talk, and we had a long meaningful conversation as we walked. Nearing the end of the walk, he asked me: Why is it that humans just take animals from the wild even though I've seen courteous and kind people around all the time!
I replied: It’s because, Spock, no matter how gracious a person is, those animals cannot tell that person "I'...

World Pangolin Day 20th Feb 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
IT’S WORLD PANGOLIN DAY TODAY!
ACRES would like to celebrate this day - by sharing with you a rescue video of one of the most endangered animals in the world!
Here, we see, Sally, a Sunda Pangolin (Manis javanica), slowly finding her bearings as we herded her to an environment that is finally familiar to her. It may seem insignificant to us, but this would mean a safe night to Sally.
She was found wandering around on the small roads near a residential area that was adjacent to her habitat,...

We do not know how Mustafa ended up there, but a kind member of public spotted him and called us for help, as the bird was there the whole day. Thanks to the very helpful sales people who let us climb in and retrieve Mustafa safely and release!
2. Rochor is a reticulated python who was found at a construction site alo...

OUR SINCERE THANKS TO ALL WHO RESPONDED TO OUR REQUEST FOR OLD NEWSPAPERS!
A few weeks ago, we made an urgent call-out for old newspapers. Newspapers are important for our daily animal care and rescue operations as they mean we can provide rescued animals with suitable bedding and substrate at little cost, and they also have other related uses. Using old papers also means that they get re-used and serve more than one purpose.
Many of you responded, and even dropped by our rescue centre to pass...

DISCOVER THE STORY BEHIND THESE ADOPTED PIGS
A recent study supports the widely-held belief that pigs are very smart and very social animals.
'We have shown that pigs share a number of cognitive capacities with other highly intelligent species such as dogs, chimpanzees, elephants, dolphins, and even humans,' said neuroscientist Lori Marino of Emory University, co-author of the study.
Dr. Marino, a neuroscientist and founder of the Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy, together with Christina ...

MEET JOEY, CHINESE SOFTSHELL TURTLE
Here’s a close up photo of Joey, one of the resident Chinese softshell turtles at the AWRC, pictured relaxing in the midday sun and enjoying the sunshine. Joey is very curious and will investigate any new object within his environment. He is also quite territorial. Joey usually doesn’t like to be disturbed when he’s basking in the sun, but in this instance he somehow tolerated us and posed for us when we took this photo!
Chinese softshell turtles are ...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – HELP END THE ILLEGAL EXOTIC PET TRADE
For several years, ACRES has been tackling the illegal exotic pet trade in Singapore, through undercover investigations, public awareness programmes, campaigning for tougher laws and rescuing victims of this cruel trade.
Although we have seen progress and fewer pets shops illegally selling wild animals, sadly, wild animals continue to be illegally smuggled into Singapore to be sold in pets.
Recently, it was reported that several a...
