MEATLESS MONDAYS- THE IMPORTANCE OF MEAT REDUCTION IN TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE
Here’s a recent feature in The Straits Times which explains why meat reduction will help address the urgent issue of climate change.

This is equivalent to the exhaust emissions from all the world's vehicles ...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – END THE ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE
The illegal wildlife trade has been rising and driving many animal species to extinction. Often times, they are smuggled in thermoses and nylon stockings, stuffed into toilet paper tubes, hair curlers and hubcaps. This is a serious issue affecting animals worldwide and it is important to end the cruel trade to keep our wildlife safe and going. It is disheartening to know that such crimes do happen here in Singapore although strict laws are...

THIS IS THE SPIRIT OF VOLUNTEERISM AND ADVOCACY!
14 boys from Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) chose to work with ACRES for their Values-in-Action (VIA) project last month.
These enthusiastic boys spent their recess time and after-school hours talking to their peers about animal protection and the work of ACRES. They also set up a small exhibition on the school grounds to raise awareness on cruelty-free living. What really moved us was when they decided to extend the initial 2-day event in...

JOAN THE MACAQUE IS BACK HOME!
Joan, the victim of a hit and run accident who we rescued earlier this month, was successfully released back to the wild on the 21st of March!
Watch the video to see Joan return home to the forest!
We will do our best to check up on Joan and make sure that she is doing well.
Macaques are commonly seen at forest edges. If you see them at the side of the road whilst driving, please slow down and be extra vigilant.
Once again, we would like to thank the Animal Re...

HOT! HOT! HOT!!!
The recent soaring temperatures in Singapore have made our work at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) even tougher than usual, and we’ve also had to make sure that the animals in our outdoor enclosures have plenty of opportunities to cool off.
Here’s a glimpse of some of our “wild” residents who know how to beat the heat in such hot weather!
These photos were taken by our dedicated volunteers and staff who have been working selflessly during the heatwave. Working...

THANK YOU FOR SAYING “NO” TO ILLEGALLY KEEPING WILD ANIMALS AS PETS
The illegal exotic pet trade is sadly still rampant in many parts of the world – including Singapore. This ongoing illicit trade means that animals are cruelly snatched from the wild, and transported in horrendous conditions to countries in which they don’t belong.
This trade not only threatens populations in the wild; it also involves much suffering to the individual animals who find themselves caught up in the trade...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – REPORTS ON ILLEGAL FEEDING OF MONKEYS
The ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) has been receiving feedback about members of the public illegally feeding native macaques (monkeys) at nature parks and reserves.
We would like to stress that the feeding of wild macaques in Singapore’s nature reserves is illegal. Please let your friends and family know this, in case they are unaware!
Here are some reasons why you should never feed wild macaques:
1. When macaqu...

WERE YOU THINKING ABOUT HELPING ANIMALS AT 5 YEARS OLD?
Young children can be very capable of solving problems and showing empathy! The K1 kids at My First Skool (Yung An Road) are coming up with ideas to help Singapore’s native Sunda pangolins. After reading the storybook ‘Why Did the Pangolin Cross the Road’ and learning how pangolins can become victims of road traffic accidents, they were determined to find ways for these endangered scaly mammals to live more safely in Singapore.

EVER SEEN A TORTOISE LAY EGGS? 22nd Mar 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
EVER SEEN A TORTOISE LAY EGGS?
In this short clip, Addison, a female Indian star tortoise at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC), can be seen laying eggs. Female Indian star tortoises will dig to lay eggs from time to time. For the tortoises at the AWRC, these eggs are not fertilised, as we adhere to a no-breeding policy for rescued animals and segregate the male and female tortoises.
Previously, when we housed the tortoises indoors, we always had to provide them with substrate in which t...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – A REPORT ON AN EMACIATED DOG
Early February this year, the ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) received feedback on an emaciated dog being brought for walks around the neighbourhood. The dog was found to be of skin and bones where the rib and hip bones were obvious at one glance and was barely managing the walk.
ACIU investigated and found the dog to match the allegations by the informant. A golf sized lump was found at the side of the rib. At the point of v...
