MONKEY BUSINESS!
Macaques are not pets; they are wild animals, and they need lots of space to jump, swing and run and perform their whole range of natural behaviours.
Like humans, macaques are social animals. They need companions, and keeping them solitary is cruel.
Macaques do not just eat bananas, which is a common notion among children and adults alike! In fact, some macaques do not enjoy eating bananas! In the wild, macaques are general feeders, feeding on a whole range of items includi...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – POOR HUSBANDRY AT BIRD SHOPS RAISES CONCERNS
Last week, the ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) investigated a report about a shop at Serangoon that was allegedly housing birds for sale in poor conditions.

Ban For Cosmetics Tested On Animals 9th Jun 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
AUSTRALIA TO BAN THE SALE OF COSMETICS TESTED ON ANIMALS
Australia's Federal Government has pledged to outlaw the sale of all products tested on animals.
From July 2017, any products that have been tested on animals, or which contain ingredients that have been tested on animals, will be prohibited.
This reform will bring Australia’s laws into line with laws in the European Union and in New Zealand.
This is fantastic news for animals, and brings the global campaign to end the cruel and unet...

GLUE TRAPS MAKE ALL KINDS OF ANIMALS SUFFER…INCLUDING SNAKES
In the course of our wildlife rescue work, we sadly come across many animals stuck on glue traps. Usually they are small animals, including birds, squirrels, lizards and small snakes.
A more unusual case was a recent one involving “Slick”, a 1.3-metre-long python, who needed to be rescued from a glue trap.
Pictured here is Inès Petard, our animal care intern, attending to Slick by using oil to slowly remove the glue from his...

HELP TO PREVENT MACAQUES- AND OTHER ANIMALS- BEING KILLED ON THE ROADS
Here at ACRES, we’ve been getting an increasing number of calls about macaques being killed by vehicles on the roads.
We’d like to remind drivers to practice safe driving to avoid such accidents, such as driving slowly at night, honking the horn at animals that look as though they are about to cross the road, and flashing high beam lights at animals to gain their attention (they might be stunned, so slowing down helps t...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 3rd JUNE 2016
1. Silver, a reticulated python, had a bad start to the morning: she was found stuck in a drain between the metal bars. We suspect that Silver tried to squeeze into a gap that was too small for her, and she ended up in a position where she was unable to move on either side of the grill. We are grateful to the very cooperative Tanjong Pagar Town Council staff member Sally and her team, for carefully cutting the metal bars, so that we could safely res...

RARE GLIMPSE OF A BANDED FILE SNAKE 31st May 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
Singapore is home to more than 50 species of snakes. Most of them live inland in our nature reserves, and some have adapted to living in urbanised areas due to the presence of prey animals such as rats and frogs.
There are also a few snakes species that live along or around our coastal areas, such as the native banded kraits and yellow-lipped sea krait. Another species that prefers this habitat is the banded file snake. Here, we get a glimpse of a baby banded file snake making his way into the...
