BIG PAPPA DOESN’T LIKE TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED!
Just like humans, animals too can have a variety of moods, characteristics and expressions, and reptiles are no exception it seems!
Here's a photo of Big Pappa, one of the female Indian star tortoises at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC), showing a not-so-appreciative expression when her photo was taken! It’s probably just a random expression and the photo angle…but we can’t help but put a meme to it!

Without concerned members of the public taking the time to call us, thousands of animals may not be alive today.
Thank you for keeping a watch...

PLEASE HELP TO PROTECT SINGAPORE’S BEAUTIFUL PYTHONS – HELP TO SPREAD THE WORD
Last week, our 24-hr wildlife rescue team received a call about a python sighted in a canal on Jurong West Street 92. To our shock and frustration, we arrived at the scene to find a dead 1.5m long reticulated python in the canal. The python’s head was smashed by a heavy object, which no doubt killed her. There were signs that python had recently eaten an animal, most likely a huge rat, making him/her immobile a...

VOICING OUR CONCERNS FOR THE ANIMALS EXPORTED TO CHINA FROM UNDERWATER WORLD SINGAPORE (UWS)
“Ms Anbarasi Boopal, deputy chief executive of the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres), said UWS should have explored options for rehabilitating its animals to the wild instead of sending them to another marine park, and called for clarifications on how the dolphins will be used at Chimelong.
The marine park is part of a booming industry that reports say is taking a toll on wild po...

Erm… Thank You?
That’s right. There are days when we see objects that we don’t think twice about. Many a times, we tend to overlook their worth, or even get exasperated by them. All the more to be thankful for them? Definitely! Why? They do benefit the animals we share the Earth with, both wild and domesticated.
1. Pillows
That soft, cushiony comfort that we don’t normally think about until our tired bodies sink into them at the end of the day. Ah yes, it’s no wonder we spend time r...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – PUPPIES SMUGGLED INTO SINGAPORE
Last month, a 43-year-old Malaysian man attempted to smuggle six puppies into Singapore through the Woodlands Checkpoint. Six puppies were found hidden in a modified compartment underneath the rear seat of the vehicle he was travelling in.
The Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) would like to urge the public not to smuggle live animals into Singapore. Smuggling live animals compromises their welfare, and also the management of diseas...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUND UP: 17 JUNE 2016
One morning, the Singapore Police Force alerted our rescue team to an immobile reticulated python stuck in a drain at Pasir Ris. Upon arrival, we were touched by the concern shown for the python by the residents.
As we were unable to rescue Mr. Ris easily, we needed to call the Town Council for assistance. A Town Council employee was soon deployed to drill and hack the concrete, so that we could safely remove Mr. Ris from the drain.
As the hacki...

ACRES FOCUS AREAS 14th Jun 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
EVER WONDERED ABOUT OUR DIFFERENT FOCUS AREAS? WONDER NO MORE!
At ACRES, we frequently get asked about the work we do. We are often thought of as solely a wildlife rescue organisation, but we do much more than that! We believe that education and raising awareness are key to addressing animal protection issues and ending animal cruelty. That said, humane education is just one of our six Focus Areas.
Interested to find out about the other four, and why each Focus Area is vital to our work? Watc...
