MEET OUR NATIVE WILDLIFE: SINGAPORE’S MINI “LEOPARDS”
As a result of urban development, leopards and many other big mammals have gone extinct in Singapore.
However, Singapore is still the home to the elusive, nocturnal leopard cat: the last reminding wild cat here. Their spotted fur helps them to blend into the shadows of their surroundings, and their unique spotted coat can be used as a way to identify individuals.
But only a few leopard cats remain in Singapore, due to habitat loss...

In a night time raid conducted on a major supplier of large ocean species to the international wildlife trade, Indonesian law enforcement officers found two illegally caught whale sharks being held in submerged pens. Thankfully, the whale sharks were unharmed and subsequently released into the ...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUND UP – 12 AUG 2016
Sunbeam snakes are one of Singapore’s native and non-venomous species of snakes. Needless to say, they are beautiful with their iridescent scales. Their name comes from their many colours shown by their scales under sunlight. There are several interesting facts about this species, such as their burrowing habit, head shape and more.
The photo on the right shows a sunbeam snake who was found inside a toilet. Thanks to the family for calling us...

THINK BEFORE BUYING THAT FURRY KEYCHAIN
Recently at ACRES, we have received feedback from concerned individuals about the sales of rabbit fur keychains in Singapore.
There is usually much cruelty involved in the production of these rabbit fur keychains. From confinement of rabbits in tiny wire cages in horrendous conditions on fur farms, to brutal killing methods and even being skinned alive. You can read more here http://www.acres.org.sg/campaigns/current-campaign s/the-truth-about-fur.html

THANK YOU TO PARENTS WHO ENCOURAGE THEIR CHILDREN TO BE COMPASSIONATE TO ANIMALS!
ACRES is always wowed (and very happy!) when young children whom we talk to have natural compassion towards animals and awareness of animal cruelty issues.
And when children go the extra step to help ACRES – such as fundraising for ACRES instead of accepting birthday gifts for their own birthday parties – we are simply in awe!
It’s thanks to supportive, compassionate parents that these children are growin...

HOW DO YOU SUPPORT A CHILD WHO SHOWS LOVE FOR ANIMALS?
1. Say ‘YES’ when your child asks to throw a fundraising birthday party to help animals!
Maia, who has just turned 6, hosted an "animal rescue" party for her birthday. Instead of wanting gifts for herself, she asked her guests to donate money to support ACRES and SPCA (Singapore) in animal rescue work.
2. Guide him/her in the fundraising process.
A total of $928 was raised from the fundraising birthday party. Claire and Bronte Forbes h...

CAN YOU GUESS THE SPECIES?
When you call our 24hr ACRES Wildlife Rescue Hotline to report a snake sighting, we will ask for a description of the snake (colours, patterns, posture, length and thickness). We also request for a photo of the snake to be sent to us via WhatsApp.
This helps us to identify the species before we can provide you with useful advice on what to do until we arrive, or if a rescue is even needed.
Here are some photos of some native species of snakes that we have rescued...
