HAPPY NEW YEAR AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN 2016!
2016 has been a momentous year for us – we celebrated our 15th birthday, rescued our 10,000th wild animal, and raised the $90,000 needed to buy a new wildlife rescue van. As always, none of this would have been possible without you, our supporters. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
In 2017, to keep you closer to the work we do, we will be starting our e-newsletters that will be sent to you by e-mail every three months. These wil...

MANDAI (DON’T MESS, DON’T MIND)!
Singapore is home to approximately over 1800 long-tailed macaques, who are a native species here.
Their wild population is naturally kept in tab like many other wild animals, based on availability of food and troop (group of monkeys) dynamics. But unfortunately when individuals complain about monkeys getting close to humans, they may be trapped and culled, or end up becoming a road kill through unfortunate accidents.
Introducing the Mandai troop. We have...

MEET GARRIX – A STAR IN OUR NEW WILDLIFE SUPPORTER SCHEME
This is Garrix, a green iguana at our ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre. Garrix was found in 2015 on a potted plant outside an HDB estate. She was a baby, weighing just 135 grams. Like many other reptiles, Garrix is a victim of the cruel illegal pet trade, who often get abandoned or released to fend for themselves.
Now, we need your help to care for Garrix, and other victims of the illegal wildlife trade…
We are launching our new Wildl...

SEASON’S GREETINGS!
This time of year may mean several things to each one of us. Many of us, you, and everyone else at ACRES, may have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly sometime this year, whether at work, or within our personal lives.
But take heart, because every cloud has its silver lining.
And every animal in need of help, had you.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you peace, health, and the best this season has to offer you. Thank you for being there for us, for your ...

NOW HIRING!
Our logo is inspired by Blue, a special monkey whose tale started with capture, suffering and hardship and eventually journeyed with us to one of reunion, freedom and love. Now, we’re looking for passionate individuals who will walk through this journey with every other animal. While we are working towards the bigger picture- towards a world where exploitation of all animals ends- we must remember that every individual animal is important, and helping even one animal to a better ...

She-Ra Dustbathing! 22nd Dec 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
DID YOU KNOW CHICKENS LOVE DUSTBATHING?
Watch this video of a rescued hen named She-Ra demonstrating it! For birds like chickens, daily dust-baths are one way they keep parasites away and stay clean. This routine and others, as walking, perching or nesting are all part of chicken's natural behaviour that the intensive farming industry fails to meet most of them.
If you would like to help She-Ra and her friends, you can choose to not only reduce consumption of meat and eggs, but also to go cru...

NEWTON AND SNAP GET A NEW ENCLOSURE!
Our two rescued common snapping turtles get a new enclosure. Thanks to the many tanks that were donated to us previously, we managed to provide some of our turtles with new water tanks. Newton and Snap finally got a new enclosure, where they can climb out to bask in the sun and walk around a little. Newton and Snap could have been free in the wild but unfortunately due to the illegal wildlife trade, Newton and Snap were cruelly smuggled and abandoned! Wild a...

MEET OUR NATIVE WILDLIFE : PARADISE TREE SNAKES
Paradise tree snakes are arguably the most colorful native snakes in Singapore. They usually have a combination of black, red and green colors on their scales. Their colorful appearance often make people think they are highly venomous but the opposite is true. They have short fangs that are located at the back of their jaw. Their venom is strong enough to help them be effective lizard hunters but not powerful enough to have any effect on humans....

IT’S MONKEY DAY TODAY!
On monkey day, we need your help again – for the two monkeys sighted at Segar road. If you have friends living in Segar road, please share the below with them to raise the awareness, spread the word with their neighbours to prevent conflict situations with macaques.
Since early November this year, we have been receiving feedback about monkeys (long-tailed macaques) reported to the EMSU, and also directly to our hotline. One or two monkeys have been sighted roaming a...

MEET OUR NATIVE WILDLIFE: NIGHTJARS
You might not have seen them but you might have heard them often in the night’s background or may have seen them scoop insects under a street lamp! This week, we are introducing the nightjars of Singapore.
Nightjars are nocturnal birds which are most active at dusk and dawn. They have variegated plumage, short legs and neck, large eyes and mouth with bristles. Nightjars are almost entirely insectivorous. Most nightjars roost on leaf litters and rest on ...

AN EXCERPT FROM A STUDENT VOLUNTEER’S REFLECTION
“Before the (ACRES) talk, I have never really thought of how animals were treated in the world. I was aware of animal cruelty but I would have never known the extent (of animal abuse) for people’s own selfish gain.”
“ACRES has taught me how I can contribute to helping animals and that even a little would definitely help. After (my) VIA project, I have been more conscious about my surroundings, looking out for (wild) animals who have lo...

ZIP IS FREE, THANKS TO A KIND MEMBER OF PUBLIC 9th Dec 2016, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
ZIP IS FREE, THANKS TO A KIND MEMBER OF PUBLIC
A few days ago, the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team received a call from a member of public about a snake that was in a ziplock bag and left at the washing bay of a carpark. It was an unusual case, but based on what we know, caught Zip and sealed him in a bag and left him there to slowly die.
The lady who called us was nervous of snakes but based on our advice, she agreed to make a difference for poor Zip by opening the bag and letting him go free at ...

MEET GLORIA, ONE IN A BILLION SURVIVOR!
Chickens raised for food in typical intensive farms suffer enormously due to the poor conditions, intensive confinement and from the fact that they have been genetically selected to grow faster and bigger than their bodies can naturally cope.
Gloria was lucky to be rescued by Animal Equality, but she is one of the few lucky survivors. In the United States alone, approximately 9 billion chickens are killed for their flesh each year. And in Singapore, the...
