Acres | Overcoming Human-Wildlife Conflict 22nd Feb 2017, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
CO-EXIST NOT CULL
Are the birds in your neighbourhood singing their hearts out? Are macaques monkeying around in your estate? Culling in addition to being inhumane, results in other animals replacing the ones who are trapped and removed. Let’s learn to co-exist with our neighbours instead.
Take your first step by checking out and sharing our advisory sheets, and more action updates to come very soon from ACRES!

AMAZING PHOTO OF MALAYAN COLUGO TAKEN BY RESIDENT!
Last week, we shared about LIL-WON, the juvenile Malayan colugo. Tonight, we would like to share this amazing photo sent to us by Michael Soldner, a resident of a condominium in the Bukit Timah area. He managed to capture some breathtaking photos of a adult colugo gliding about with a baby hugging onto her. The urban background pretty much sums up our how wildlife are adapting and how we need to appreciate and co-exist with them! Our thanks to ...

LIL-WON THE JUVENILE MALAYAN COLUGO!
Lil-Won was found stranded by a member of public at Bukit Timah. Lil-Won was a juvenile Malayan colugo. However, she could grip onto a tree trunk and climb it. Very often, in urban Singapore, young/juvenile animals get lost or stranded. We were not sure how Lil-Won will react...

ACRES REMOVES A FISH HOOK FROM A MONITOR LIZARD! 3rd Feb 2017, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
ACRES REMOVES A FISH HOOK FROM A MONITOR LIZARD!
The ACRES wildlife rescue team continues to get calls regarding animals who have fishing lines and hooks caught on them. Barb, the young water monitor lizard was the latest victim. He got a fish hook lodged in his mouth. Luckily, it was not lodged deeply and we managed to quickly remove the hook and set him free shortly after doing a health check. Unfortunately, not all animals who get caught in fishing lines and hooks survive. Many die a painful...

MEET OUR NATIVE WILDLIFE – TWIN-BARRED TREE SNAKE
The twin-barred tree snake (Chrysopelea pelias) is also known as banded flying snake. Just like the closely related and bigger paradise tree snakes (Chrysopelea paradisi), this species can glide from a higher level to a lower level by flattening their body in a curved fashion and projecting themselves off a branch.
Relatively rare, these beautiful snakes are characterised by their series of broad reddish orange patterns along their body that...
