WHEN KINDNESS HURTS: THE EFFECTS OF RELEASING ANIMALS
The ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) responded to a tip-off and looked into the animal release/liberation practices in Singapore.
These practices involve the release of animals that can result in thousands of deaths. Apart from compromising the welfare of the surviving animals, the impact to the ecosystem can be highly detrimental while releasing (abandoning) animals purchased as pets is illegal.

A LITTLE THANK YOU MESSAGE TO OUR RESCUE OFFICERS!
It’s not easy working a 32-hour shift with intermittent yelling at times (we have a number of nice callers who keep the morale up) or to ensure that the right menu is served at the right time for our choosy rescued animals. All these while, constantly raising the much needed awareness, but the rewards are priceless!

MEET CELIA VAN DE WALLE, OUR VET INTERN IN APRIL
Celia who is currently a year one student at the Royal Veterinary College, London did her veterinary placement with us from 5th - 19th April. During her internship, Celia got involved with the animal husbandry work, as well as assisting us with the basic medication treatment for the animals in our quarantine.

Recently, our team picked up Olea, a female young olive-backed sunbird from an alert member of public who rescued her after noticing that she got her feet entangled in a nest. It was an unusual case. Her feet could not be saved. Luckily, she was a strong individual whom we managed to release after a night of treatment and rest!

This reticulated python was likely out hunting prey but was confronted in human conflict. She was caught by the residents whilst escaping and was tied up.
