Asian Leopard Cats Are Small Nocturnal Predators W..
11th Jan 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

Asian leopard cats are small nocturnal predators whose diet also consists of rodents, amphibians and reptiles. They are also native to Singapore, avoiding humans as much as they can. Unfortunately, we had two of these wild cats who were abandoned. Investigations are ongoing and they are currently under the zoo's care. Please leave wild animals in the wild. If you think the wild animal is in distress, please call our 24-hour wildlife rescue hotline 97837782 for assistance. #ACRES #LeopardCa...

When You've Eaten A Tad Too Much This Festive Seas..
1st Jan 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

[When you've eaten a tad too much this festive season.] Red-tailed racer, Cherryonde Bottom, is a resident of the forest. Interestingly, Cherryonde was found chilling out above a letterbox at a Choa Chu Kang Housing Development Board estate. As you can see, Cherryonde Bottom is now back in the wild, where he should be. As our forests become fragmented, we’re bound to encounter a wild animal passing by or lost. Please keep your distance and call our 24-hour wildlife rescue hotline at 9783 778...

31st Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

2018 has been rough but also exciting. We pulled through because we had you by our side, watching over us and giving us a helping hand. That made our journey to this day be so much more bearable. Because of your support, wild animals who have been displaced, orphaned, injured, smuggled or simply left to fend for their life, have had their voices heard. And of course, lives saved. Thank you to the amazing volunteers for your time and friendship; to the individuals who have fundraised for us; to...

UNNECESSARY ACCESSORY A "necklace" of sorts (ingots, bellswas tied around this poor myna's neck. We don't have enough leads to open an investigation, but the myna has been released into the wild (far away from Potong Pasir). Giant Trap To Control Javan Myna Population Triale..
29th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

HAS CULLING MYNAHS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO WORK EFFECTIVELY? That's the question we would like to ask the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) on this pilot project. 1. Culling of crows for over a decade and not specifically addressing human feeding of birds and food waste management has led to increase in other scavengers/opportunistic feeders' populations (rodents, pigeons and mynahs) in estates. 2. Rodents attract pythons, resulting in more work for organisations li...

19th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

START WITH 1 THING "It’s difficult to estimate precisely how many species we’re going to lose, in 100 years or so, we could lose up to 50% of all the species on earth." Dr. Michael Novacek, Curator, American Museum of Natural History. This is a threat all too real to Peanut, a red-footed tortoise rescued from illegal pet trade, and his kind. He currently resides with his enclosure-mate Walnut, another victim of the illicit trade. Don't be a witness to the destruction. Be the solution. Ou...

18th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

A LOT CAN HAPPEN IN TWO DAYS It’s just the tip of the iceberg- if you think about the other 363 days in a year. We’re talking about another exotic illegal pet found. Two days ago, we found a #marmoset wandering about and earlier this month, a ‪#‎hedgehog‬. Alas, we were too late this time. After dawn this morning, a star tortoise was found in a pond at @Bishan Park. Concerned, a member of public contacted our wildlife rescue team but Petal was already dead on arrival. We don’t wan...

Urgent Appeal For Information. Another Wandering I..
16th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

[URGENT APPEAL FOR INFORMATION] Another wandering illegally-kept primate has been found. Last night, our rescue team was alerted to a brief sighting of a marmoset (monkey) at block 271D Punggol Walk. We scouted the site and interviewed residents. Working against time was critical if we had to ensure the marmoset survives his new environment. Thankfully Mr. Ndi, a resident who spotted and contained the animal, alerted us. The marmoset will be handed to the zoo. We are appealing for any infor...

[ACRES CHARITY SCREENING] “Climate is controlled by the ocean. The oceans are the big guy; they're in control. And the oceans now are slowly changing, and that is the danger we face today. A mass extinction is driven by a change in the environment, and we are changing the environment precisely along the lines that can trigger off one of these great catastrophes.” Dr. J.E.N. "Charlie" Veron, Former Chief Scientist, Australian Institute of Marine Science Join our Charity Screening of #Racing...

[ACRES CHARITY SCREENING] “The Cornell Bioacoustical Laboratory has the largest repository of animal sounds on the planet. In the brief lifetime of this collection, 70 years or so, many of the species that were recorded are now extinct. The repository is a living example of the massive rate of extinction that's happening.“ Louie Psihoyos Co-Founder, Oceanic Preservation Society The 21st Century is perhaps the most important environmental century in the human experience; this is our final c...
