START WITH 1 THING "It’s difficult to estimate precisely how many species we’re going to lose, in 100 years or so, we could lose up to 50% of all the species on earth." Dr. Michael Novacek, Curator, American Museum of Natural History. This is a threat all too real to Peanut, a red-footed tortoise rescued from illegal pet trade, and his kind. He currently resides with his enclosure-mate Walnut, another victim of the illicit trade. Don't be a witness to the destruction. Be the solution. Ou...

18th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

A LOT CAN HAPPEN IN TWO DAYS It’s just the tip of the iceberg- if you think about the other 363 days in a year. We’re talking about another exotic illegal pet found. Two days ago, we found a #marmoset wandering about and earlier this month, a ‪#‎hedgehog‬. Alas, we were too late this time. After dawn this morning, a star tortoise was found in a pond at @Bishan Park. Concerned, a member of public contacted our wildlife rescue team but Petal was already dead on arrival. We don’t wan...

16th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

[URGENT APPEAL FOR INFORMATION] Another wandering illegally-kept primate has been found. Last night, our rescue team was alerted to a brief sighting of a marmoset (monkey) at block 271D Punggol Walk. We scouted the site and interviewed residents. Working against time was critical if we had to ensure the marmoset survives his new environment. Thankfully Mr. Ndi, a resident who spotted and contained the animal, alerted us. The marmoset will be handed to the zoo. We are appealing for any infor...

15th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

[ACRES CHARITY SCREENING] “Climate is controlled by the ocean. The oceans are the big guy; they're in control. And the oceans now are slowly changing, and that is the danger we face today. A mass extinction is driven by a change in the environment, and we are changing the environment precisely along the lines that can trigger off one of these great catastrophes.” Dr. J.E.N. "Charlie" Veron, Former Chief Scientist, Australian Institute of Marine Science Join our Charity Screening of #Racing...

[ACRES CHARITY SCREENING] “The Cornell Bioacoustical Laboratory has the largest repository of animal sounds on the planet. In the brief lifetime of this collection, 70 years or so, many of the species that were recorded are now extinct. The repository is a living example of the massive rate of extinction that's happening.“ Louie Psihoyos Co-Founder, Oceanic Preservation Society The 21st Century is perhaps the most important environmental century in the human experience; this is our final c...

Dikko Swims Again!
7th Dec 2018, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

When Dikko the monitor lizard came in, a huge laceration was noticed on his right side near the base of his tail. Unsure of what caused the skin tear, we went ahead with treatment. He also had severe stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth) which may have been caused from being immunocompromised- a common condition amongst reptiles who are stressed and injured. It was weeks of intensive treatment which included medications, damaged tissue removal, cleaning his wound and oral cavity (not easy wit...

THE TYREGIRL RUNNETH YET AGAIN She’s running the Standard Chartered marathon in a couple of days– with a tyre that weighs around 10kgto raise funds for the animals and spread awareness for ACRES! WHY DRAG A TYRE? “A disharmonious relationship with our environment is a burden. I run with that burden in the form of a tyre. It takes effort to run with a tyre. It takes effort to look after our environment with all the distractions of modern day living but put a person in nature and watch the...
