Iguana Awareness Day. Shangria, Once Kept As An Il..
8th Sep 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

IGUANA AWARENESS DAY Shangria, once kept as an illegal pet, stands magnificently as she gets weighed by our animal caregivers. These pre-historic looking herbivores, although non-native to Singapore, are found in some of Singapore's green spaces, often illegally released by their owners. In some countries, released pet green iguanas are considered pests whose population is managed by removal and culling because of damage to gardens. Please say no to the illegal wildlife trade! #IguanaAwa...

So Far From Home. Barni And Queen B Were Fortunate..
31st Aug 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

SO FAR FROM HOME Barni and Queen B were fortunate to be back in their homeland in Malaysia. Unfortunately, Ernie, another giant Asian pond turtle like Queen B, was not scheduled for the trip home because of a shell deformity. Unable to fully retract her head, Ernie becomes vulnerable to predation, and so the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre will be her permanent sanctuary – her home away from home. You can help Ernie and other turtles by being a Wildlife Supporter. Food for the animals in our c...

Phew Talk About Shell Shock. Queen B Is Our Superh..
26th Aug 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

Phew! Talk about shell shock... Queen B is our superhero and heroine of her own kind, the giant Asian pond turtle, non-native to #Singapore. The condition and contortions of her old shell wounds stunned us all. Clearly, her battle scars hide a painful and traumatic story that she suffered, aside from longhaul horrifics that victims of the illegal pet trade endure. Thankfully, Queen B's internal organs and locomotion hadn't been affected by the mysterious trauma and her shell had healed over....

24th Aug 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

Dear Barni, You're probably not aware of this, but you're four days away from going home. And when we mean home, it's not the home you grew up in, neither is it the halfway house of ACRES you currently reside, where our volunteers and staff had the pleasure of caring for you. Barni, the home you might remember is one of vast foliage and running streams. Rivers that feel cool on your skin in the morning as you glide through the waters for your favourite fish meal; or warm in the night as you sc...

Happy Hour With Vennila. We All Need That Cool Bev..
21st Aug 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

HAPPY HOUR WITH VENNILA We all need that cool beverage to quench our thirst in the blistering heat. If you extend that to wild animals, you will likely recall a scene from a nature documentary where lions, zebras and elephants huddle around a watering hole. As you observe Vennila savouring every drop of water, we hope you rethink how wild animals need their rightful space, with the freedom to eat and drink when they want, the freedom to express natural behaviour. In short, wild animals do not ma...
