Thats My Spot. For Now ;. Hawkeye The Endangered F..
31st Jan 2020, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

THAT’S MY SPOT! For now ;) Hawkeye the endangered Forsten’s Tortoise easily relates to the Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, and it may just be some of us too! Hawkeye is always found at her favourite hiding spot of her enclosure. It is the perfect spot to receive sunlight for a few hours AND take shelter during heavy downpours. Because it is a trench, her spot offers her optimal cooling temperatures from the heat and exclusive private space from caregivers. But it won’t be her...

17th Jan 2020, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

THE THREE MUSKETEERS! Isn’t it delightful to be sunbathing on a bright, sunny day? It’s even better when there’s good company! Izzy (Chinese striped-necked turtle), Homer and Bart (both yellow-spotted river turtles) are always observed lounging together in their pond as their other two pond-mates go about their businesses. The three are among the 45-over turtles residing in our rescue centre, all dependent on our dedicated staff and valued volunteers for the provisioning of food, wate...

Crime Against Cuteness. Thanks To A Member Of Publ..
15th Jan 2020, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

CRIME AGAINST CUTENESS Thanks to a member of public, we were alerted to a slow loris whose canines were filed down– a practice to makes lorises “suitable” (not dangerous to humans) for the wildlife pet trade. Wildlife pet trade in Singapore is an illegal and yet this slow loris was found walking in the middle of the road beside a green space. Online videos of adorable-looking wild animals being petted or handled for the wrong reasons contribute to the demand for the wild animals as pets...

Monkey Business At Marsiling. Macaques Are Smart. ..
8th Jan 2020, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

MONKEY BUSINESS AT MARSILING Macaques are smart. Once they realise there is no food available, they will stop visiting. If we want to minimise conflicts, we need to be smart and learn too. It takes every single resident to play a part in managing waste properly to allow the macaques to coexist in the nearby nature areas. #CoExist #LongTailedMacaque #WasteManagement

Sunda Pangolin Mother And Baby Release!
1st Jan 2020, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

2020, HERE WE COME! It has been a crazy 2019 for all of us at ACRES. Apart from having the highest record of over a thousand calls in November to our 24-hr #WildlifeRescue hotline, we also embarked on new challenges. We revamped our avian housing area, repatriated more animals, erected brand new enclosures to hand-raise and rehabilitate native wildlife such as squirrels, civets and even otters (for a short period). We will continue to be the voice for animals as we enter 2020, and we leave y...

Happy New Year. We Hope You're Starting The Year S..
1st Jan 2020, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope you're starting the year strong with a good, hearty breakfast! Morning toast sounds super, but not for these long-tailed macaques. It’s true that sharing is caring but if you truly care for them, don’t share! Because directly feeding these macaques conditions them to associate humans with easy food, and nothing compares to their natural selection of leaves, seeds, fruits and insects. So enjoy your savouries and treats all to yourselves, and don't forget to properly...

One Day, Two Criticallyendangered Species. Just A ..
19th Dec 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

ONE DAY, TWO #CRITICALLYENDANGERED SPECIES Just a day ago, our 24-hour wildlife rescue team rescued these two animals on the same day and their stories tell the shocking truths behind the scenes. The #SundaPangolin was found hiding in a shoe rack at third storey of a building. No Thanks to habitat fragmentation, many of our wild animals in #Singapore are forced to explore or use urban areas to reach another pocket of habitat. The caller was concerned that the poor pangolin was stressed with ...

A Human's Cruel Act To A Defenceless Bird
11th Dec 2019, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

THE NEED FOR KINDNESS AND COEXISTENCE Our 24-hour wildlife rescue hotline received a call for a mynah who was seen dangling from a unit’s laundry pole stand in Yishun. Our rescue officers were shocked to learn from the unit’s resident that the mynah was deliberately hung from the pole to teach the mynah (and other mynahs) a lesson so they can “learn” not to enter her kitchen. The mynah was assessed for injuries and given some water and food before being released. The resident was info...
