24th Jan 2022, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

Mr T, THE COLLARED KINGFISHER: CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE? Handed over by a member of public with malnutrition and lack of survival skills, this #CollaredKingfisher has come a long way over months - from the colours, flight to wild behaviours. We hope that Mr T can be released back to the wild soon! If you find young wildlife, please do not bring home even with good intentions. Not only is it illegal, but without proper diet, care, enclosure and stimulation they suffer from malnutrition and...

Lost Babies Reunited. Oriole Parents Are One Of Th..
21st Jan 2022, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

LOST BABIES REUNITED Oriole parents are one of the most persistent and bold in the wild. We love that side of them. The moment the baby calls out, the parents will appear. That reassures us that all is going to end well, as long as we do whatever it takes to bring the baby closer to the parents. Thanks to our #volunteers Carmen and Serene for doing two reunions in one day, patiently and properly! #BirdsOfSingapore #WildlifeRescue #ACRES

And every case teaches us something and leaves the officer with a memory. Here is our volunteer #WildlifeRescue officer Chetna releasing a sparrow who was rescued from a glue trap and was cleaned up. #Sparrow #GlueTrap

Urban Birds With Clipped Feathers And Cable Ties. ..
20th Jan 2022, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

URBAN BIRDS WITH CLIPPED FEATHERS AND CABLE TIES Even though the crows, mynahs and pigeons may not be treated as protected wildlife, such acts of cruelty to them is still an offence. We were saddened by a recent case of a glued mynah (first two photos) at 415C Fernvale link, whose wings were also clipped, and the poor bird didn't make it despite help given by a kind member of public. Thanks to this kind person, who also cremated him/her. Already being culled due to complaints, these mynahs,...

PEST IN SINGAPORE, TRAFFICKED IN INDONESIA Some cases that we come across do not have any leads for a follow up investigation, but it leaves us pondering why these animals are treated this way, when our actions were the root cause of the problem to begin with. For example, this #JavanMynah a species who are treated as invasive pests in Singapore are rare and smuggled in their home range. Click here to see the video of the recent release of trafficked mynahs in Indonesia: https://youtu.be/uqwU...

LEGAL, EASILY AVAILABLE AND AFFORDABLE DOESN’T MEAN IT IS ETHICAL “I love animals, but I don’t know what else to do!” “The rats really cause a lot of damage, I just have to keep trapping them this way” “I didn’t know my pest control uses glue traps, until I saw this snake stuck” “Your suggestions seem more expensive and troublesome”. “You mean my neighbours also must keep the place clean?” We hear you!
