Stubby the ball python was being kept by a member of the public who was unaware of the restrictions on keeping snakes as pets in Singapore (it’s illegal!), Stubby was handed over to ACRES in August 2011, all set to begin his second chance at a better life.

Snakes naturally live in Singapore’s parks and reserves, and if you’re lucky enough to spot one, stand back and watch their graceful movement from a distance.
Most snakes are not venomous, although we do have some venomous species in Singapore, so you do need to be cautious if you come across a snake.
Snakes will only attack as a very last resort, if they feel threatened and cannot escape.
They’d rather save their venom for catching their prey....

ACRES remains puzzled by the comments from RWS and AVA in response to our appeal (see The Straits Times article below):
1. “When contacted, the AVA said it visited RWS during a fireworks display in January but found that the dolphins were not affected”.
According to scientific research, anthropogenic noise is a known stressor for cetaceans, which have very sensitive hearing.
How did AVA ascertain that the dolphins were not affected, which appears to contradict the scientific studie...

Chinese New Year isn't the only time that shark's fin soup is consumed. The dish is also commonly served at many Chinese wedding banquets.
Share this video with your friends and help to stop the demand for this cruel and destructive dish one banquet/meal at a time.
We'd love to hear experiences from those of you who have decided to forgo the dish in favour of cruelty-free (animal-product free) and sustainable alternatives. :)

This March, join 11 other passionate wildlife protectors in volunteering at the ACRES Lao Wildlife Sanctuary!
The ACRES Lao Wildlife Sanctuary, a project in collaboration with the Love Wildlife Foundation, provides sanctuary to animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.
The animals at the sanctuary include mammals such as bears, gibbons, macaques and otters, and also many species of reptiles and birds.
The date of the trip will be 15th to 24th March 2013.

ACRES is joining Project: FIN, along with Fairmont Singapore and Swissôtel The Stamford, in campaigning for a Fin-Free Lunar New Year.

"Instead of re-creating the type of National Geographic shots we’re used to seeing, Schmidt and Heinrichs’ photos have enough shock value that viewers stop to take them in. Their success on the internet speaks for itself and the photographers plan to use the photos to raise money for a shark conservation program run by WildAid."
