Common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina)
Common snapping turtles are native to North America and are one of the species of turtle’s resident at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre. Common snapping turtles are ambush hunters, often staying still at the bottom of a shallow lake or stream waiting for prey to pass by. They rely on their powerful beak-like jaws to snatch prey.
Here in ACRES, we feed our Common snapping turtles with whole fish. Feeding is often enriched by wrapping the fish ...

At ACRES, we do our level best to ensure the optimal welfare of our animals and what better way than by providing our rescued Indian star tortoises with enrichment. In the wild, Indian star tortoises will have to negotiate different terrain and obstacles to find food and shelter. This enrichment aims to encourage the tortoises to use their senses to negotiate a maze to find food.
The cardboard mazes were made by students from the English medium school from Tasikoki. The application and video e...

Today we were at a dialogue session about human-macaque conflict, attended by residents staying near the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Overall it was a positive session, and we were delighted that the focus wasn’t on culling, but instead more about long-term measures we humans should take to address this issue. We were pleased that Mdm Halimah Halimah Yacob, MP for the area and Speaker of Parliament, was there. We look forward to working on solutions, so that we humans and our non-human fellow r...

Excellent message, from the Little Fireface Project. Please never take your photo with wild animals (such as lorises) while on holiday- especially true for Thailand. These animals are torn from the wild, their teeth are ripped out, and they live lives of fear, misery and frustration, before being killed when they are no longer cute and controllable. Please do your part to stop this cruelty, and educate others to do the same. Please help to share!

Something to think about this Veggie Thursday. Shared from the brilliant Facebook page "CCTV for All Slaughterhouses".
As for cages themselves, an ordinary citizen who kept dogs in similar conditions for their entire lives would risk prosecution for cruelty. A pig producer who keeps an animal of comparable intelligence in this manner, however, is more likely to be rewarded with a tax concession or, in some countries, a direct government subsidy.

In 2011, we were looking for suitable substrates for our indoor quarantine enclosures, particularly for tortoises rescued from the illegal pet trade in Singapore. Being a non-profit organisation, we are always on the lookout for sponsored items: the less money we spend on such items, the more money we have for all our other various animal protection programmes!
That's when we came across Blondal All Turf. The staff from
Blondal All Turf were keen to help us, by making a site visit to address ...
