The Green Room Cafe will be running a campaign entitled "Let's have a compassionate Vesak Day!" from the 14th of April to the 16th of May 2014. This is to raise awareness about the symbolic release of animals which often takes place during this day, and the detrimental effects it has on our ecosystem and the animals themselves.

Adisa, our Savannah monitor lizard is one of the newest residents in ACRES. She was found roaming at a private residential area.
Unlike our native Water monitor lizards, Savannah monitor lizards are much smaller but with a stocky body built. They can grow up to 5 feet in length. They feed on insects and mollusks but will also eat eggs and rodents. They also tend to spend more time in burrows unlike Water monitor lizards who are more often spotted along river banks.

All of us were treated to the sight of cherry blossoms ; the flowers of the Trumpet Tree following the aftermath of a prolonged period of dry spell in the recent month. And while the rest of the young macaques get to play and roll on the flowers alongside with their families in the wild, Suzzie doesn't get to experience that.

Asian Dive Expo 2014 had been an awesome three days! A heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to all our volunteers who stood on their feet the whole time sharing with the lovely crowd at ADEX what we do and raising funds for us. 2nd Week of April Rescue Updates! In this week, we feature a Naked Bulldog Bat who flew into someone's home, a White-vented Myna stuck in a glue trap, a Reticulated Python in the canal, an Asian Toad and a Colugo found stranded in our caller's house..
We have both sad and happy rescue stories this week nevertheless, we want to thank our concerned callers who called, the government authorities that we worked together with and our pro bono vets who treats our animals!

At ACRES, we rescue many different types of animals with many of them requiring medical attention. These could be due to a variety of reasons. Two examples are that they could have been housed in poor conditions as an illegal pet or could have endured horrific injuries from traffic accidents/falls after being abandoned in unfamiliar urban environments. 2 weeks ago, Suzzie underwent her final surgery. Its been close to 3 months since we rescued her and rehabilitation process has been going on well. Despite facing so many odds at such a young age, Suzzie has been recovering well and displaying amazing indomitable fighting spirit.
