The Asian Koel can be seen quite often on our sunny island. The male being predominantly a black glossy colour and the female is dark brown with white and buff spots.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Koel lays its eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts? Where their young are raised by the foster parents!
The word Koel is echoic in origin and this bird is widely used as a symbol in Indian poetry. This bird had also been compared to the nightingale sometimes because of its melodious call!

Suzzie - A Promise Kept 5th May 2014, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
After 4 months of intensive rehabilitation, Suzzie began her new chapter of life as we sent her home last Friday. Truly, it was a rewarding moment as we witnessed her troop accepting her back on the very same day. A promise kept to return her home ; stories of hope like this, is an inspiration to us, mankind. We thank everyone who have been supportive of Suzzie and most importantly, the vet team at ARVC for fighting on with her, despite all the odds.

The Green Room Cafe is running a campaign entitled "Let's have a compassionate Vesak Day!" from the 14th of April to the 16th of May 2014. This is to raise awareness about the symbolic release of animals which often takes place during this day, and the detrimental effects it has on our ecosystem and the animals themselves.

If your going vegan and buying cruelty free product plans doesn't seem to always stick, here is one thing we highly recommend being pretty confident that you can keep!
There are roads everywhere in Singapore and while we travel on wheels for transport, the wildlife, the strays and lost animals do not have the luxury of such machines!!!
However they do still need to cross the road from time to time. Let us be more mindful and share this awareness.

Yesterday, a group of volunteers from DB Schenker Singapore came to ACRES to help us construct a shed for our snake shed. The ACRES sanctuary has allowed many of our animals like our Indian star tortoises from the wildlife trade to live in a more natural environment.It has also given us an opportunity to educate visitors about the animals and the terrible illegal wildlife trade.
