A lot of the conflicts that occur between humans and macaques is due to the lack of awareness in reading them and knowing how to behave among them. Macaques use facial expressions to ‘talk’ to each other and to humans. For the next few weeks, the Macaque Team will bring you through a guide to the different Macaque facial expressions. Feel free to ask us anything and remember to spread the crucial knowledge you gain for the sake of the macaques and everyone!

The ACRES rescue team have just recently picked up a Chinese Soft-shell turtle. He was found at Sembawang beach park, crawling along the beach. This is could possibly indicate that he could have been a victim of illegal animal liberation practices. He was found with ulcers and sores all over his carapace and his plastron has lacerations.The sores and ulcers are also emitting an foul smell.

More than 2 weeks after Suzzie's return back home to her family, we headed down for the second time to check on her. It wasn't hard to spot her due to her distinct left hand; post rehabilitation. BUT! that didn't put her at a disadvantage! She blended in so well with her family that you wouldn't even have known that this was the macaque who fractured her hand, lost all her 4 fingers, underwent 2 surgeries and 4 months of rehabilitation due to an illegal snare. What's more blessing than getting a fantastic bunch of animal-lovers from the NUS who have come together to raise funds for ACRES? These young runners would be taking part in this year's Official Sundown Marathon Singapore on 31st May. 16 of them will be running the 10km marathon, while another 8 will be running the 42km full marathon!
