A shout out to all running enthusiasts and running groups!
" Hello everyone! I've been running various races for the past few years. However, ever since I joined ACRES, I've channeled this passion to raise funds and awareness for the animals. I head the Macaque Team and as i go on with my job, I see a huge need to preserve and protect our own native wildlife in Singapore. You've read about them in the news and seen them (especially if you do your runs in nature reserves!). The struggle for huma...

AWESOME NEWS WE WANT TO SHARE!
(Cruelty Free Living Today)
China has taken another important step towards ending cruel animal testing for cosmetics. From June 30, animal testing for ordinary cosmetics produced and sold inside China will no longer be legally mandated. This historic rule change comes following two years of effort by the Be Cruelty-Free China campaign run by Humane Society International’s Beijing team and its Chinese animal group partners.

Last week, students from NUS Environmental Studies Programme dropped by at ACRES to learn more about the work that we do. Although they were here for a talk, the enthusiastic students volunteered their time to help out at the ACRES outdoor sanctuary. Some of them helped out to cement bricks whilst the rest helped to prepare food and dietary enrichment items for our animals. We hope that they have learnt more about our rescued animals, their diet and the illegal wildlife trade.
Cheers!

For this week's update on animal care, we are going to do a revisit on a soft-shell turtle we covered about a month ago. His name is 'SHY', due to his rather shy demeanor as compared to some of our other soft-shell turtles. He was not shy when we first rescued him though. This was probably due to the stress he endured being illegally released into the wrong habitat and having being inflicted with horrendous injuries. Its been a month since he was rescued and we are glad to report on how well he ...

"We get inspired and encouraged when we get to know the different individuals of macaques. We see a need to share their stories to the public because macaques have become highly misunderstood. The citizens of tomorrow's world must be prepared to work hard to preserve what is left, restore what they can and live in harmony with nature everywhere" - Sabrina, Macaque Campaigns Team
Just like humans, each macaque is an individual. Join the Macaque Team for a short video story of the Bukit Batok Na...

A little good news on Rhino, the Green Iguana:
In March, we were alerted to a sick Green iguana by the roadside. When we reached the rescue location, we were shocked to find a female Green iguana in very bad condition, emaciated and possibly gravid. Confirming that thought, on our way back from rescue itself, she started laying all her eggs in the transport carrier. We were very worried for Rhino (she got her name from the two little spikes left on her head) and her health. She could have been ...

Over the past 7 months, the Macaque Team has been working very closely with Amy Klegarth, a primate researcher working on her PH.D at the University of Notre Dame. 6 macaques from different troops around Singapore were GPS collared. The data gathered showed the distribution range of the individual troops of macaques. These data have assisted us in identifying the areas of high human-macaque interaction, thus allowing us to address the root of each problem and providing accurate advices and effec...
