Did you know that one should never intentionally ride on an elephant?
Especially on a man-made seat fitted onto their back, resting on the highest arch where the spinal chord is constantly pressed against with weight that is not suppose to be? Plus the sharp bull hooks used to jabbed into an elephant's sensitive skin causes them immense pain too.
Have you seen a ride like this before and if you did, would you think twice before you attempt an elephant ride in the future?
Let us share and s...

The Festival of Biodiversity commences tomorrow and we are glad to be participating in the celebrations. This week, instead of rescue stories, here is a little feature of critters with whom we share our rescue centre premises with: Gladly, respectfully and proudly!
If you are able to identify the species (in the pictures) and/or share interesting facts about them, please go ahead!
Don't miss the Festival: http://www.nparks.gov.sg/festivalofbiodiversity/

Some feedback from one of the recent volunteers to visit our Sanctuary in Lao.
Thanks Angela!
"It’s 10am in the morning and it STILL feels like I should be out in the warming sun, checking in on the moon bears - hopefully to catch them in play. Instead, I’m in my air-conditioned corporate office, pushing papers. The “real world” that I am in feels like an alternate reality and my body and muscles, which still remember the toil of the past 2 weeks, actually WANT to be back in Laos… Vo...

A shout out to all running enthusiasts and running groups!
" Hello everyone! I've been running various races for the past few years. However, ever since I joined ACRES, I've channeled this passion to raise funds and awareness for the animals. You've read about them in the news and seen them (especially if you do your runs in nature reserves!). The struggle for huma...

From June 30, animal testing for ordinary cosmetics produced and sold inside China will no longer be legally mandated. This historic rule change comes following two years of effort by the Be Cruelty-Free China campaign run by Humane Society International’s Beijing team and its Chinese animal group partners.

Last week, students from NUS Environmental Studies Programme dropped by at ACRES to learn more about the work that we do. Although they were here for a talk, the enthusiastic students volunteered their time to help out at the ACRES outdoor sanctuary. Some of them helped out to cement bricks whilst the rest helped to prepare food and dietary enrichment items for our animals. We hope that they have learnt more about our rescued animals, their diet and the illegal wildlife trade.
Cheers!
