Over the last few months, students from NPS International School have been taking time off to volunteer at ACRES. They have been an enthusiastic bunch, lending a helping hand in a variety of projects. They have helped us clean our sanctuary premises and plant/transplant plants and even lay bricks.Over the last few weeks, they also helped us to prepare our new night dens for use by varnishing them. Last week, they made their last visit to ACRES for 2014. The students were tasked to prepare some d...

You might think that leaving behind a sweet wrapper is harmless. But multiply that by a hundred and the hazards they bring leads to a cascading number of problems.
The Long-tailed macaques naturally live on the edge of the forest. Too often when there is an overlap in living space between the wildlife and humans - conflict occurs. But these conflicts can be rectified when the root of the problem are being addressed. Taking Lower Peirce Nature Reserve as one case study, find out and understand w...

A THUNDEROUS 'THANK YOU' to everyone who was a part of our very first 'Wipe Out Animal Cruelty' ACRES Charity Carwash! It was an awesome day filled with beautiful (and clean) rides; but more importantly, a very heartening one to see that so many out there, coming from all walks of life, stood together wanting to wipe out animal cruelty!
We are greatly thankful and are looking forward to next year, where we, together with our animal conscious community (You!), will work together to create a bett...

"A Home for Blue"
Have you ever wondered why our logo is a blue monkey? Well, it is indeed inspired by a special monkey named Blue - who was the first animal rescued from the illegal wildlife trade by ACRES.
Blue was rescued from a miserable life as a ‘pet’ here in Singapore, kept alone, chained up in a small cage. It was no life for a free-spirited monkey.
When we first met Blue, he lived alone, in a small cage, attached to the bars by a chain around his neck. His short chain meant there...

Upon learning that dairy cows were made to work terribly hard in order to produce the milk on market demands, a compassionate young lady from Children Primaryland Student Care was heard murmuring with a shudder, "I don't want to take cow milk anymore."
We humans are given the ability to feel compassion beating in our hearts. All we need to do is to answer the call - the call to #endanimalcruelty .
Answer the call at the ACRES Charity Car Wash this Sunday. https://www.facebook.com/ACRESasia/ph...

What if we saw everything around us, that we so often take for granted once again for the first or the last time?
Massive demands calls for massive production, transport and the list goes on.
How can everyone help? We have all heard of the famous three 'R'. Reuse, REDUCE and recycle. Will reduction help? Yes definitely, remember - "Never doubt that a small group of people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has." - M.Mead
We can put an end to animal cruelty by being t...

"I'm belong to a family now''
Angelina was discovered being kept at a temple in Singapore, and was even dressed up in doll's clothes when we rescued her. Following her rescue, Angelina was successfully introduced to and integrated into a group of macaques with whom she now lives very happily!
We believe that every individual is important. Every animal has the right to a life free from pain, discomfort and abuse at the hands of humans. Ending the cruelty of even just one animal is important and...

The ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Crime and Rescue Hotline was alerted of a Bengal slow loris abandoned in Bedok reservoir by a member of the public on February this year. This species of primate is not native to Singapore and was smuggled into the country for the illegal wildlife trade. The loris was in critical condition and despite the critical care provided by ACRES, the slow loris passed away.
The illegal wildlife trade generates billions of dollars of illicit revenues each year and Singapore is ...

"I come in peace"
The art of balance - Bobby is a young male who lives in the Bukit Batok Nature Park with his family. Due to his inquisitive nature, he spends most of his time following and learning from the adult males in his family. He is usually spotted on the highest point of a tree.
Long-tailed macaques are primarily arboreal and can leap distances between trees up to five meters, using their long tails for balance. They move quadrupedally through the canopy and spend some amount of time...
