STUDENTS MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR ANIMALS!
Last week, 6 groups of elementary school students from the Canadian International School and German European School Singapore visited us at ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre on an inquisitive mission. They approached us on their own accord, in search for knowledge and understanding on various animal protection issues they are concerned about: animal poaching, animal testing, animal rights, the animal fur and skin industry, animals in captivity, etc.
We are ...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 6TH MARCH 2015
This week: three of our latest rescues, and a new face at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre!
1. Outside working hours, our staff members may still encounter animals who need a little help. Spiderman, a white-vented mynah (top left), is one of them: he was tangled up in twine and got stuck among some branches, unable to move or fly. It took us a while to carefully remove all the twine, and then Spiderman was all set to fly away!
2. Bean (top ri...

OUR WILD NEIGHBOURS: WILD BOAR
We’re very lucky in Singapore to share our island home with a huge variety of wild animals, although many of these animals are rarely encountered and remain somewhat of a mystery to many people.
We’ll be sharing information about our fascinating wild neighbours every Wednesday, so that we can start to understand them better, starting with wild boars!
Wild boars are medium-sized animals. They live in groups (called sounds), and they are usually nocturnal, bein...

BE A CHANGEMAKER: JOIN THE CHONG PANG PUBLIC FORUM ON ANIMAL PROTECTION POLICIES
It’s fantastic that nowadays there are so many groups rescuing animals. This work is important but our ultimate aim must be to eradicate the need for such rescues. To really move forward for the animals, we need to solve the root causes of animal abuse/suffering, and one way we can achieve this is through changes at policy level.
Join this year’s event to learn about the positive progress for animals that occu...

ROSSA’S RESCUE
Everyone can play a part in helping and protecting our native wildlife. Many times, all it takes is just a touch of compassion and initiative.
When a group of construction workers spotted Rossa on their first day back at work after Chinese New Year, she was lying in the middle of a construction site at Rifle Range Road and obviously in a bad way. So they called the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Hotline.
Rossa was covered with sand, severely dehydrated and hypoglycaemic. Inflammation o...

SO LONG TO SARAH, OUR INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER FROM GERMANY!
This week, we would like to shine our spotlight on Sarah Mans, our international volunteer from Germany. Sarah volunteered with ACRES from the 19th of January to the 14th of February. She’s an independent individual with initiative, and performed her duties at the Wildlife Sanctuary extremely well.
Besides helping out with the animal care team, Sarah also took the opportunity to join the outreach team and help out at our public edu...

A LIFE SAVED: THANK YOU, JASPER!
With the festive season almost coming to an end, we want to share a happy story about a donor who cared for our wildlife: Jasper!
Our rescue team got a call from Jasper, whose dog alerted him to a paradise tree snake that had ended up on his balcony. His neighbour saw the snake and wanted to kill it, thinking it was dangerous. But, thankfully, Jasper knew better, and called the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Hotline, and the rescue team was soon on the way to rescue the...

KEEP THEM WILD AND FREE: SLOW LORIS
Here begins a series on the illegal exotic pet trade in Singapore. Tune in every Saturday for features on the beautiful wild animals that we are - with your help – working hard to keep wild and free, and not kept as pets.
In today’s segment, we feature the lovely, wide-eyed, highly endangered slow loris.
Illegal poaching for the exotic pet trade is driving the slow loris to extinction. As they may inflict a toxic bite, slow lorises often have their sha...
