A LITTLE BOOST FOR US AND THE DOLPHINS!
Sometimes, it's the smallest things in life that spur us on.
Here is a letter from 'A Dolphin Lover' giving us a much appreciated boost! It encourages us to keep up our passion for helping animals and ending animal cruelty.
So today, from the bottom of all the hearts here at ACRES, we thank you, 'Dolphin Lover', and the others out there who quietly watch and support us in your own way. Without you guys, we are nothing.
We will indeed continue to giv...

A CLOSE SHAVE FOR DONALD!
Meet Donald, a rock pigeon who was found floating in a canal. We were in the location investigating a python case, and were shocked to see this pigeon all wet, alive and being carried away with the flow of the water in the canal! Our rescue officer quickly climbed down to help poor Donald and, fortunately, Donald was held by a small bush within the canal, making it possible to reach him. Luckily Donald did not inhale any water into his lungs, and was bright and able to...

HAVE YOU SPOTTED DOLPHINS IN SINGAPORE WATERS? LET US KNOW!
We spent the week visiting the various ferry terminals and piers in Singapore to put up our DOLPHIN SIGHTING POSTERS. We were so hopeful after hearing stories of wild dolphin encounters by the islanders and fishermen. They have given us information which is vital to our dolphin protection efforts!
So, if you are out in the seas and happen to chance upon a pod of dolphins, do call 8809 7835 immediately! We very much appreciate your hel...

FANCY NEW DINING GEAR FOR THE TORTOISES!
Ever since we moved the tortoises outdoors, we have faced a constant challenge with the wear and tear that the natural elements bring. We do change the feeding sheets (upon which their food is placed) for the tortoises every now and then, when the sheets start to fall apart.
Last week, the tortoises got some brand new feeding sheets. We usually stick to earth tones to match the environment, but decided to try these funky colours for a change! We also o...

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU SEE AN INJURED MACAQUE?
It is very important for members of the public to know that macaques live in close knit family groups. Instinctually, if an individual is injured, the rest of family members will stay nearby to help or protect him/her from any potential threats – this could mean from another animal, including us humans.
They will be very distressed, hence, it is advisable for members of the public not to make any attempts to handle the injured macaque by him or he...

THANKS SJII GIRLS: YOU ROCK!
It was an amazing week from 6th – 10th April, when we had 6 outstanding students from St. Joseph’s Institution International School volunteering with us. Besides contributing their efforts to spruce up ACRES HQ by designing door signs for the volunteer rooms and organising our shop, they also took the opportunity to join us at one of our school roadshows to speak up for the animals with students of a similar age.
We’d like to express our deepest appreciation...

DO SINGAPOREANS SUPPORT THE CULLING OF MONKEYS?
The answer is NO (based on a survey commissioned by ACRES and conducted independently by Millward Brown)!
Only 13% of Singaporeans feel that monkey culling should be allowed.
The survey findings are very encouraging. Animal protection is clearly an issue close to the heart of Singaporeans and this shows a strong sense of compassion in our society. While animals continue to be culled in Singapore due to public complaints, the findings here show ...

WATCH SKY’S RESCUE!
Meet Sky, a pink-necked pigeon who flew into Phyllis Riccia School and landed beside the glass panel. Sky was stranded inside the building, not knowing his way out. At times, birds will try to fly through glass windows, as they are unable to recognise glass as an opaque surface.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff members at the school who were extremely concerned for Sky. With our little giant ladder and some help from the school staff, our rescue officer was able to r...

Want to help save dolphins? You may be surprised to know that this photo is of a wild Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin in Singapore waters! Yes, we have wild dolphins here – But how many? Where do they go? What threats do they face? We don’t know, but we’re going to find out. We want to find out so we can protect them and make sure they’re safe in the place they should rightfully be – the wild.
For many people who want to see dolphins in Singapore, seein...

PARDUS MEETS LOLA!
This week, Pardus, a rescued leopard tortoise in our care, got to experience life outdoors at our outdoor Sanctuary Area. He had a great time! He immediately started chomping down on grass and was very active.
Pardus had been rescued after he was found abandoned at an HDB stairwell. He was in our quarantine for some time, and while there he didn’t seem to show any interest in his enclosure mates, Amber and Lola.
At ACRES, we are careful when housing animals, to ensure th...
