HUA PING, FREED FROM A BIN!
Meet Hua Ping, a common wolf snake who got stuck inside a bin and needed to be rescued!
Fortunately, she was spotted by the residents of the house who called us for help. Common wolf snakes, otherwise called house snakes, are one of the most commonly found native species of snakes in Singapore. As their name suggests, they live close to human environments where there are abundant geckos and small lizards to prey on. Hua Ping probably followed a gecko and ended up st...

SUZZIE – A YEAR AFTER RELEASE
Many of you will remember the story of Suzzie, a young long-tailed macaque who suffered multiple fractures to her left arm and lost four of her fingers after getting caught in an illegal snare in Sembawang Park.
Following two major surgical procedures and four months of intensive rehabilitation at the Animal Recover Veterinary Centre (ARVC), Suzzie was returned to her home back in the wild early last year and was re-united with her family.
A year later, we have...

DO SINGAPOREANS WANT STRAY DOGS KILLED?
Only 14% of Singaporeans feel that the culling of stray dogs should be allowed, in a survey commissioned by ACRES and conducted independently by Millward Brown.
Yet, culling continues in Singapore, with more than a thousand dogs culled every year.
Are there more humane population control methods? YES. The pilot project on Jurong Island to trap, neuter, release and manage the dogs there is one such option.
Where there are humane alternatives that are...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 8th MAY 2015
Do remember to call the ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 97837782 if you spot any wild animal in Singapore who may need some help.
1. (Top left) Ginger, a nightjar, is a resident of the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre. Nightjars are nocturnal, and we only hear them at night. We suspect that Ginger was foraging close to our volunteer house early in the evening, and was perhaps disturbed (possibly by our dogs), and he ended up resting in our pots...

MACAQUE AND CIVET RESCUED FOLLOWING TIP-OFF TO ACRES
“Mr Louis Ng, chief executive of the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres), the group that alerted the authorities, said both animals were kept under poor conditions.
Civets are nocturnal creatures, so keeping one where there is a lot of noise and light is cruel, while confining the macaque to a small cage is a form of abuse, he said.”
Please support the new ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit, and help us wipe out suc...
