DRINKS ON THEM, ALL FOR THE ANIMALS!
This Sunday, we’d like to thank a very special duo who have been quietly supporting us and the animals for several years: Darryll and Josephine Burleigh, from J & D Burleigh (Importer & Distributor of Fine Estate-Bottled Wines).
They have been providing the wine, pro bono, for our gala dinners (our biggest fundraiser every year), for many years. Without them, our gala dinners would not be the same (take it from us, and our satisfied guests!)
So, thank ...

80% OF SINGAPOREANS FEEL THAT ANIMAL PROTECTION IS IMPORTANT TO THEM
This was discovered in a survey commissioned by ACRES and conducted independently by Millward Brown earlier this year.
So, how do we go about protecting animals who have no voice of their own?
Simple. We can be their voice!
Dozens of celebrities condemned the wearing of fur in a 2012 campaign, with many baring all in a strong anti-fur statement. Pamela Anderson boycotted Uggs boots after realising they were made of skin. St...

SPOTTED ANY WILD ANIMALS IN SINGAPORE? SHARE YOUR LOVE OF NATURE WITH US AT THE FESTIVAL OF BIODIVERSITY!
Standing at the end of the Malayan Peninsula, our tropical island of Singapore is the smallest country in Southeast Asia. Yet, it is home to over 40,000 wild species of animals and plants, including over 300 species of birds and over 100 species of reptiles such as snakes and lizards! Our landscape is so much more colourful because of their presence. Every one of us holds the power to keep ...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 19th JUNE 2015
Here are some of the wild pythons we’ve encountered recently, through many people who were concerned for them, and also some who were scared of them.
1. (Top left) Pilot, a reticulated python, entered a car - possibly as a result of feeling threatened and trying to find the nearest safe place in which to hide. Thanks to the concerned callers to our Wildlife Rescue Hotline, Pilot was rescued, but suffered some minor injuries to his body from tryi...

And two weeks later, on July the 17th, a group of animal lovers (Priscilla, Alicia, Samantha, Janet and Li Hao)...

MORE HOME MAKEOVERS AT THE AWRC!
Last week, we updated you with news of Midori’s revamped enclosure. Since then, we’ve been busy giving makeovers to the rest of our iguana enclosures! We’ve made the enclosures as enriching as possible, to give the iguanas more opportunities to climb. We’ve also included hanging, unfixed logs, which shake when the iguanas climb onto them. This is a tried and tested form of enclosure enrichment for captive animals.
Green iguanas are native to South Amer...

COMMUNICATION BY FACIAL EXPRESSIONS IN MACAQUES
Macaques use gestures to mediate both competitive and cooperative interactions with other group members. Communication by facial expressions and body postures plays an important role in the social dynamics of macaques. Gestures convey information on the emotional state of the sender, and can also be used to inhibit the behaviour of another individual or to request its participation in specific activities such as grooming, agonistic support, mating...

ONLY 5% OF SINGAPOREANS DISAGREE THAT PENALTIES IN SINGAPORE REGARDING THE IMPORT/ EXPORT/ RE-EXPORT AND/OR POSSESSION OF ENDANGERED SPECIES SHOULD BE HARSHER.
This was discovered in a survey commissioned by ACRES and conducted independently by Millward Brown early this year.
A stark example is the penalty meted out last year for the seizure of 32 wild animals – the biggest seizure of illegal wildlife from a home in 11 years.
In February 2014, Ong Ming Shiang was fined $41,000 for keeping ...

SEEKING PRO-BONO PRINTING SERVICES TO HELP WILD ANIMALS IN SINGAPORE- CAN YOU HELP?
Each week, we love sharing the stories of wild animals whom we help, thanks to concerned members of the public contacting our Wildlife Rescue Hotline (97837782). However, what we don’t feature are the cases where ignorance and the lack of awareness led to the unfortunate injuries and deaths of animals. We want to do even more to stop such cases.
Furthermore, we want to help every single distressed wild animal...

FROOT IS REUNITED WITH MUM!
Meet Froot, a baby fruit bat who was stranded on the floor. She was calling for help, but it was too early in the day for bats to be active. It was Froot’s lucky day, as a kind member of public spotted her and called us for help.
When infant animals are found and there is a chance that the adults are still around somewhere, our first priority is to try and reunite them. Reunion with the parent/s is the best outcome for any young wild animal, as his/her mother and...
