CELEBRATING SINGAPORE’S NATIVE WILDLIFE!
At the Festival of Biodiversity, held on the 27th and 28th of June, we celebrated our native wildlife, as well as raising much-needed funds for our animal protection programmes! EVERYDAY HEROES FOR WILDLIFE!
We’re very grateful to several members of the public who have helped raise awareness among their own community about our native wild animals and how to protect them.
Today, we’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to two of our long-term rescue volunteers - Alpana Ahuja and Chuen Ling Lee – who, as well as assisting with our hands-on rescue work, have also been helping ACRES and the animals in their own ways. Here are two examples of the two ladies helping...

THE RACE HAS JUST GOT TOUGHER
Just when her training was going well, disaster struck for Sabrina, our Campaigns Executive, who is running the Sundown Marathon for the animals this coming Saturday.
While attending to an injured long-tailed macaque on a rainy day, she slipped and fell into a drain, dislocating her elbow. Thankfully, doctors managed to realign her elbow, but she was not allowed to train anymore.
It’s just 4 more days to the race, but Sabrina is still willing to push on and c...

EGGS GALORE!
Over the past week, many eggs have been found inside the enclosures of the rescued female Indian star tortoises at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC). This photo shows one such site where a tortoise dug a hole and laid her eggs.
It is not uncommon for female tortoises to lay eggs. These are, however, unfertilised eggs. Previously, when the tortoises were housed indoors, we had to provide the female tortoises with sand trays in which they could lay their eggs. Sometimes, when...

LET MACAQUES TEACH YOU HOW TO EAT AND RUN!
You may have seen hamsters storing food in their cheek pouches. Did you know that long-tailed macaques do the same?
Macaques possess adaptive features which help them survive and thrive in the wild. They have cheek pouches, which are handy tools that grow larger in order to accommodate food. The function of these pouches is to keep food safe for brief periods of time – usually as long as it takes for a macaque to get from one place to another. The ...

WHAT MOTIVATES OUR INTERNS AND VOLUNTEERS? LET’S ASK LISE!
Lise has been devoting her time and efforts as an ACRES intern for the past two months, working extremely hard, come rain or shine, to do her best the animals in her care. We asked her a few questions to learn more about what drives her to do her part to protect wild animals in Singapore!
1. How did you get involved with ACRES?
- I love nature. I study Wildlife Biology and I wanted hands-on experience with animals. I chose ACRES bec...

THE UNSUNG HEROES OF OUR BIRTHDAY BASH
Today, we’d like to thank the trio that were quietly working in the background while we were enjoying the night of our 14th Anniversary Gala Dinner last month: Our cool technical and sound man for the night, Ahmad Ridhwan; our event organiser extraordinaire, Rahayu Rahni; and our quirky emcee, Melvin Ho!
These three talented individuals very kindly gave their best for our Gala Dinner, and they didn’t ask for anything in return; just the knowledge that...

HERE COMES THE FESTIVAL OF BIODIVERSITY! ARE YOU IN?
Exactly how wild can Singapore be? You might be surprised at the rich variety of native wild animals that are still residing on our tropical island. Our ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team has encountered a fair share of the incredible wild animals of Singapura, but these represent merely a small fraction of our great biodiversity!
Since the start of our native wildlife rescue operations back in 2009, we’ve rejoiced every single time when a rescued...

SEEKING PRO-BONO PRINTING SERVICES TO HELP WILD ANIMALS IN SINGAPORE- CAN YOU HELP?
Each week, we love sharing the stories of wild animals whom we help, thanks to concerned members of the public contacting our Wildlife Rescue Hotline (97837782). However, what we don’t feature are the cases where ignorance and the lack of awareness led to the unfortunate injuries and deaths of animals. We want to do even more to stop such cases.
Furthermore, we want to help every single distressed wild animal...

THE FIRST INSTALLMENT: WE WILL BE RUNNING.
The Sundown Marathon is right around the corner, and Sabrina Jabbar will be giving it her all for the animals!
Although this is not her first marathon, the difficulty level for this run is a lot tougher for Sabrina than usual - because she is also fasting for Ramadan!
Nonetheless, this is not stopping her from giving her best so that animals have a voice!
Sabrina needs all the support she can get, and so do the animals, so please do show your suppo...

RESCUED SNAKES GET NEW HOMES!
A few months ago, we launched an online fundraising campaign - ‘Warmth for Walnut’ - to raise money to improve enclosures for some of the rescued animals in our care. We planned to purchase new tanks to house the rescued snakes.
Thanks to your kind donations, we were able to purchase new tanks for every single snake! Not only will these tanks improve the welfare of the rescue snakes; they are also easier to clean and maintain, making our animal care operatio...

“MY HOPES FOR THE FUTURE OF THE SINGAPORE MACAQUES”
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing interesting stories and information about Singapore’s long-tailed macaques. We hope you’ve enjoyed the posts!
Today, we’d like to take a moment to hear from some young advocates who are doing their part to help long-tailed macaques in Singapore.
A group of young girls from the Canadian International School embarked on a project to share information and knowledge on how to co-exist with ...
