ONE MORE DAY TO THE SWIM CHALLENGE! #runclimbswimACRES
We’ve had a tough time trying to secure a venue sponsor for our swim challenge. Huge thanks go to our one of our board directors for their assistance, and the charitable Tanah Merah Country Club Garden Course for allowing us to use their pool. We are truly grateful to them for their helping hand, as this event would not be possible without them!
Right now, we have 8 swimmers who’ve pledged to be there on the 30th of July to max out t...

BLOODSHORT GOES FOR A SWIM!
As you might know, we’ve recently been busy revamping our snake enclosures and moving them into our quarantine. Bloodshort was one of the last snakes to have his enclosure relocated. Here’s a video of him enjoying and investigating his fresh new enclosure set up! We changed his water bowl to a tub to allow him to soak in the water. Blood pythons live in habitats close to or within water bodies such as rivers and swamps.
Unfortunately, blood pythons are poached ...

BE PART OF ACRES’S NEW VOLUNTEER TEAM – TEAM MONKEY GUARDS!
Always wanted to help the Singapore’s long-tailed macaques but don’t know how to? Then here’s your chance!
We’ll be embarking on a pilot project in Bukit Timah to explore alternatives in human-macaque management. A modern way of working towards a long-term, humane solution to resolve human-macaque tensions is to engage Monkey Guards. Monkey Guards, which have proven to be effective in countries such as Gibraltar, are curre...

MEET THE "COMEBACK" INTERN – HALI; AND THE ENERGY OVERLOADED INTERN - ELIZABETH!
This July, we were very happy to welcome Halimantul@Hali again! Hali volunteered with us back in 2012 when she was in secondary school. Today, Hali is a veterinary student from Murdoch University. When Hali learned that the extramural programme is compulsory for all vet students, she decided to come back to ACRES to complete her internship with us under the animal care department!
This month, we were also deligh...

THEY DID IT - FOR THE ANIMALS! PLEASE MAKE A DONATION TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!
“It took us a total of 3 days to reach the summit. Despite the cold winds and heat from the scorching sun, clambering up the steep slopes and experiencing some physical challenges, we are so happy to have made it to the top!
The journey there didn’t start off too well, when my luggage got stolen from at Lombok airport. Before the climb even started, Priscilla was down with a fever bug and some of us experienced a...

TOGETHER, Let’s End Tiger Trade.
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest of the Asian cats. Tigers can weigh up to 660 pounds and can reach 10 feet in length. Unlike many cats, tigers are excellent swimmers and love the water. Each tiger has unique set of stripes, and this helps with individual identification in the wild.
It is shocking and disheartening that wild tiger numbers have decreased by 95% over the last century. Reasons include habitat loss and widespread poaching for variou...

HELPING WILD ANIMALS AFFECTED BY CONSTRUCTION WORK BY RAISING AWARENESS
Our wildlife rescue team is kept busy not only attending to calls about wild animals in distress, but also conducting educational sharing sessions at construction sites all over Singapore. The site workers often experience their first ever encounter with a wild animal during construction operations such as land clearing, piling works and laying of pipes.
When we are called for sightings of snakes at a construction site th...

ERNIE GOES OUTDOORS INTO THE SANCTUARY!
Back in February, we shared a post about Ernie, a rescued female giant Asian pond turtle. Ernie is a timid turtle and was not welcomed by Audrey into the enclosure for female giant Asian pond turtles. During the attempted introduction, Ernie was on the receiving end of a bad bite from Audrey and needed to go back into quarantine to receive treatment.

HELP US HELP THE MACAQUES!
Signing in from the Macaque Team! Just when we were embarking on our latest project to save macaques, our macaque rescue van broke down. We are in urgent need for help to repair the rescue van. Since the launch of the ACRES Macaque Team in 2013, the van has enabled us to save the lives of several macaques. We have travelled island-wide with the van: responding to macaque emergency calls, conducting field studies and, most recently, experimenting with the new Monkey G...

VOLUNTEERS, YOU CLOCKED UP 1,300 VOLUNTEER HOURS LAST MONTH: THIS HELPED US SAVE UP TO SGD $11,200!
Last month, our amazing volunteers clocked up 1,300 of volunteer hours at ACRES. This contribution helped us save up to SGD $11,200 (for the animals!) This is because this number of volunteer hours is equivalent to one member of staff working for 7 months, or 7 members of staff working for 1 month! Thank you volunteers, every effort counts!
