JULY 29th: INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY
The 29th of July is a day dedicated to celebrating the existence of tigers and to spread awareness on their endangered status.
Here are some shocking facts about tigers:
1. Today, there are more tigers in captivity than in the wild.
2. Only around 3,200 tigers are believed to be left in the wild.
3. Demand for tiger parts is driving the poaching activities which are driving tigers towards extinction.
4. Habitat loss is another major threat to tigers.

A P1 LEARNING JOURNEY TO THE AWRC!
This month, we are receiving the Primary 1 pupils of Boon Lay Garden Primary School at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC), to bring them on a Learning Journey towards caring for animals. These young boys and girls are not little at all when it comes to learning!

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 31st JULY 2015
1. Razor (top left), an insectivorous bat, was spotted resting in the same spot for a couple of days, possibly stranded within a contained environment. Thanks go to the concerned member of public who called us to help Razor. Following some rest and gulping a lot of fluids, Razor could not wait to fly away soon after sunset!
2. Morteen (bottom left) is one of three paradise tree snakes who were rescued after a pest control company employee spraye...

ONE MORE DAY TO THE SWIM CHALLENGE! #runclimbswimACRES
We’ve had a tough time trying to secure a venue sponsor for our swim challenge. Huge thanks go to our one of our board directors for their assistance, and the charitable Tanah Merah Country Club Garden Course for allowing us to use their pool. We are truly grateful to them for their helping hand, as this event would not be possible without them!
Right now, we have 8 swimmers who’ve pledged to be there on the 30th of July to max out t...

BLOODSHORT GOES FOR A SWIM!
As you might know, we’ve recently been busy revamping our snake enclosures and moving them into our quarantine. Bloodshort was one of the last snakes to have his enclosure relocated. Here’s a video of him enjoying and investigating his fresh new enclosure set up! We changed his water bowl to a tub to allow him to soak in the water. Blood pythons live in habitats close to or within water bodies such as rivers and swamps.
Unfortunately, blood pythons are poached ...

BE PART OF ACRES’S NEW VOLUNTEER TEAM – TEAM MONKEY GUARDS!
Always wanted to help the Singapore’s long-tailed macaques but don’t know how to? Then here’s your chance!
We’ll be embarking on a pilot project in Bukit Timah to explore alternatives in human-macaque management. THEY DID IT - FOR THE ANIMALS! PLEASE MAKE A DONATION TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!
“It took us a total of 3 days to reach the summit. Despite the cold winds and heat from the scorching sun, clambering up the steep slopes and experiencing some physical challenges, we are so happy to have made it to the top!
The journey there didn’t start off too well, when my luggage got stolen from at Lombok airport. Before the climb even started, Priscilla was down with a fever bug and some of us experienced a...

TOGETHER, Let’s End Tiger Trade.
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest of the Asian cats. Tigers can weigh up to 660 pounds and can reach 10 feet in length. Unlike many cats, tigers are excellent swimmers and love the water. Each tiger has unique set of stripes, and this helps with individual identification in the wild.
It is shocking and disheartening that wild tiger numbers have decreased by 95% over the last century. Reasons include habitat loss and widespread poaching for variou...
