The idea that our oceans teem with cultural animals — and have for millions of years — is the central conclusion of a new book by two scientists. And it's a convincing one.
Whales and dolphins, as they forage for food and interact with each other in their social units, may learn specific ways of doing things from their mothers or their pod mates.
This undoubtedly means that the capture and removal of wild dolphins from their pods to supply the captive dolphi...

MEET BIG AND BEAUTIFUL VENILLA!
About two weeks ago, we shared a post about Bloodshort, a rescued blood python who is the second heaviest snake at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC).
Today, we’d like to introduce the largest snake in our care: Venilla, an albino Burmese python. Many of you might know her story and some of you may have seen her. Venilla is the largest animal at the AWRC. Believe it or not, someone probably kept her as a pet here in Singapore at some point in time, befor...

KOPI LUWAK: A CUP OF CRUELTY
Did you know that civets are cruelly exploited in the production of what is known to be the most expensive coffee in the world?
Kopi Luwak (civet coffee) is derived from undigested coffee beans passed out by civets. Civets used to produce these beans are fed mostly coffee cherries, and their faeces then go through a cleaning, drying, roasting and grounding process before it is ready for sale. This coffee type has been labelled most expensive due to its unique proc...

BACK TO WORK FOR THE RUN, CLIMB, SWIM TEAM!
After several painful baths (from the sunburn!) and occasional random naps, our full ACRES team is back at work this week, planning and preparing for the next fundraiser, because we constantly need funds to keep going with our efforts to end animal cruelty.

OUR OUTDOOR KITCHEN IS REPAIRED!
When we established the Outdoor Sanctuary Area back in 2013, we needed to construct a small area in which volunteers and staff could prepare the daily food for the rescued tortoises. We managed to construct this small outdoor kitchen by recycling some wooden pallets! This humble corner lasted for about two years before it started giving way this year, as the wood was not intended for outdoor use.
Luckily, a kind donor passed us some old outdoor decking wood she...

Known to many researchers and residents living near Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Achilles sadly passed away on the night of Tuesday the 21st of July 2015, from injuries sustained possibly as a result of collision with a car or being bitten by a snake.
