SPCA 25 Week Challenge 7

Our Challenge this week was for Selina to teach her black cat, Midnight (fostered and adopted from the SPCA) to pick a rubber band out of a bucket of water.

Come join us at the first ever D'Pet Carnival, this Sun (30 August), 9am to 5pm, at the D'Kranji Farm Resort (at 10 Neo Tiew Lane 2, S718813)!
The 5-hectare leisure and hospitality agri-tainment centre, located in the lush Kranji countryside, will be where it'll all happen. This community event will be graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr K. Shanmugam, and aims to encourage Singaporeans, expats and all, present and potential pet lovers alike, to enjoy a great day out in the outdoors!

ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: SAKURA, rescued from a cage (with other cats) at Toa Payoh
Sakura, a 2-year-old female, seal point Cross-Siamese mother cat, was rescued by SPCA from being trapped in a small cage (also containing her three kittens and another two, adult cats, all in the same cage) outside her ex-owner’s ground floor HDB unit at Toa Payoh, in late June 2015. Students of Hwa Chong Institution (College section) embarked on three-month-long Project CREAMY (Creating a Respectable Environment for Animals with Me and You), aimed at raising funds for, and creating further awareness of, SPCA’s cause. They have raised a total of about S$2,000 from their initiatives that also included an SPCA Membership Drive. Thank you, animal welfare champions of Hwa Chong Institution!

Our Challenge this week was for Lawrence to squeeze himself into a crate for 5 minutes to show us that we should not be confining our animals to tiny quarters for long periods of time!

Just yesterday (19 Aug), SPCA went to the rescue of a cat stuck in a tree, in Serangoon Central.
Our rescuer, Daniel, used a catchpole to lift the cat from the branches that it was wedged between, and brought it safely to the ground.
Although the cat appeared flustered, it was unharmed. The ginger ear-tipped cat, being a community cat, was then released.

Just last Friday (14 Aug), SPCA went to the rescue of a community kitten heard mewing in distress, within a car’s engine compartment, at Joo Chiat Place.
Our rescuer, Daniel, played aloud an audio clip of a mother cat calling her kittens, using his mobile phone, to lure the kitten towards him. The kitten then fidgeted and came into view. At an opportune time shortly after, Daniel scruffed it, with his hand, and lifted it out of the compartment.

Nanyang Junior College Runs Wild! On 15 August 2015 (Sat.), SPCA visited Nanyang Junior College for its annual “Wild Run”. ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: NELLY, recently rescued from a car engine compartment
Nelly, a 9-year-old beige/white female Cross-Persian, was rescued by SPCA from being trapped in a car's engine compartment somewhere along Petir Road, on 18 July 2015.
Mohan and Glen, SPCA's staff who required about 40 minutes to free Nelly from her ordeal, found her covered in grease and dirt and looking very distraught.

ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: BAMBINO the rescued cat
Bambino, a ear-tipped, ginger/white male 7-year-old cat, fell from a height at a Henderson Road block in March this year and severely injured his jaw. The SPCA picked him up and provided him with veterinary care and treatment at our clinic. Following a few months of recovery and convalescence at our shelter, he was ready for adoption from mid-July 2015, and is still waiting for his forever family.

Our Challenge this week was for #Dreamgirls to wash a car with their elbows!
