SPCA Law Review
We are proposing that failure to take care of the welfare of a pet should be an offence. Penalising an owner for not having exercised reasonable care or supervision can prevent a pet from unnecessary suffering.
Since December 2010, the SPCA has been reviewing the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals section of the Animals and Birds Act. We now seek your feedback on our "Proposal for Legislative Reform". To read the entire paper and give your feedback, go to www.spca.org.sg/lawrevie...

Pet Care Tip: In light of a recent case on Stomp about a cat allegedly beaten when it strayed into a man’s home, an SPCA supporter asked if we can educate people on what to do if they don’t want these animals straying into their homes. That’s an excellent idea indeed. We will be sharing with you some useful tips with you starting this Friday.
It is a natural instinct for cats to want to dig soil and bury their feces. If you live on a low floor and have potted plants, you may be inviting ...

Pet Care Tip: Despite their small and compact size, Jack Russell Terriers are active and hyper dogs. When they get difficult to handle, keeping them leashed outside the home is not the solution. It is important to read up on a particular breed’s personality and his needs if you are interested in getting a dog. Otherwise you could end up neglecting him because you do not know how to handle his needs.

Updates On 19th Oct 2011 19th Oct 2011, by SPCA Singapore
Hi everyone, an update on the Marsiling crippled cat: one of our Inspectors visited the area yesterday and after speaking to some residents he managed to locate the owner. The cat (a sterilised male) was inside the home. According to the owner, the cat was found in a drain about a year ago with a spinal injury, and taking pity on the animal's plight, she adopted it. She sought a veterinarian's opinion who said that she could opt to have surgery done on the cat, or leave it as it is. The cat appe...

Pet Care Tip:
It has become a common occurrence to see dogs being left, unattended, in locked vehicles with the engine turned off while their owners run their errands. They can die of heatstroke. Please don’t leave your dog in the car even if the windows are rolled down!

The SPCA has been fortunate to receive a large number of volunteer applications on a regular basis.
Due to the influx of people interested in volunteering, we have backlogs of new volunteer applications to process, which in turn means that most volunteers will have to wait a long time before they can be rostered to help out.
In light of this, we are now only opening the application process when there are spaces made available in our volunteer program. This new system will take effect from 24...

On 23 Sep, we received a call reporting an injured eagle at Changi and our Animal Rescue Officer picked up this beautiful white-bellied sea eagle. We brought it to Jurong Bird Park who we turn to regularly for assistance. The eagle was found to be suffering from dehydration and very happily, the Bird Park was able to release it 5 days later.

The SPCA is still appealing for information that may lead to the identity of this person who may be able to assist in an animal abuse case (involving injury to a bird at Changi Beach in May) that is currently being looked into by the police. Please call 6287 5355 ext 9 if you have any information.
We are grateful to the police for circulating the picture to the media recently (appearing in English and Chinese press) and hopefully it is just a matter of time before the case can be solved.
