Just last week, we met a mom and her two daughters in our shelter. Her daughter had been pestering her for a pet. Instead of heading straight for the pet shop to fulfill her daughter's demand, Adora brought the children to our shelter. She wanted them to understand that a pet is not a toy, but a lifetime's worth of responsibilities.

Christmas comes early for our shelter dogs this year! As part of an auction organised by students from Singapore Management University’s People for Animal Welfare (PAW) club, a 5kg Christmas cake for dogs prepared and sponsored by The Barkery Singapore was auctioned off for S$1000.
The kind bidder who wishes to remain anonymous didn't stop there. She donated the cake to our shelter, putting in an additional S$444.20 as donation to the SPCA.

She's not part of our 12 Singapore Specials of Christmas feature, but Kiseki the Bull Terrier sure has a story to tell.
Found immobile along Changi Road two weekends ago, Kiseki had injured hind legs and was bleeding from the mouth when our Junior Inspector (JI) arrived on the scene. Our JI rushed her back to our shelter where she was checked by our consultant vet. Kiseki was paralysed from the waist down and we suspected a mild nerve problem. Adoption Spotlight: Sugar, Yam Yam, Mog and Sago.
Both 1-year-olds, Sugar and Yam Yam came to us in a pair, abandoned by their previous owner after they were allowed to breed. Sugar is the girl while Yam Yam is the boy. Sugar gave birth to two boys, Mog and Sago, but the entire family was given up soon after. They didn't have such great luck in life, but are ready for their second chances! This isn't a picture of some ordinary tree. Look close enough and you'll see the hapless cat stuck near the end of the branches. Our Animal Rescue Officers (AROs) arrived on the scene after receiving a distress call from a concerned member of public, and managed to get to the cat using a long ladder and pole.
Fortunately, the cat was safe and without injuries. Our AROs released the cat who was happy to return to where it came from.

Adoption Spotlight: Smooch.
This 3-month-old baby girl was an unfortunate victim of the very inhumane glue board trap (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=101517704 26193155&set=pb.262947298154.-2207520000.138603122 9.&type=3&theater). Our Junior Inspectors (JIs) had a frazzling Sunday.
We received a call at 9.45am yesterday about 5 wild boar piglets found in a canal at Mandai. The caller was kind enough to rescue the piglets from the canal while waiting for our JIs to arrive on the scene. We took in the distressed babies who appeared to have lost their mother and sent them to ACRES: Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) where they can get expert help and attention. Adoption Spotlight: Kim and Chloe.
3-month-old Kim and Chloe hang out in our shelter and are the most active puppies we've seen! We can't quite tell what breed they are yet, but they definitely have terrier blood in them. But breed doesn't matter; they're as lovely as any of our dogs in the shelter. These babies are growing fast and would love to do so in a place they can call their own. Found last week in a carrier left at the void deck of Block 347, Clementi Avenue 5, this Shih Tzu came to us in really bad shape. We advertised in the Straits Times Classifieds, hoping to reunite her with her owner. No one came forward. Though she was microchipped, her owner did not register the microchip and we could not find any details on the database.

Adoption Spotlight: Ginger (female) and Rory (male).
Ginger, Custard and Rory are siblings who used to hang out in our shelter. We found this mynah at Block 11 Cantonment Close, caught in the bird repellent (glue-type) applied on the rubbish collection centre's roof. The caller who contacted us shared that she had previously rescued several birds and a cat in the vicinity. The animals had unfortunately got themselves stuck to the building structure due to the bird repellent used by the town council's contractor.
