When retired nurse Janet Rawlinson collapsed in her Cornholme, England, home, in her unconscious state, the cat scrambled to action, and tapped on the neighbours’ window, to grab their attention in order to rescue her.
For his heroic deeds, the cat (named Slinky Malinki) is now being considered to win the National Cat of the Year Award in the UK. For the owner, however, the cat’s done more than e...

Deaf Dachshund Overcomes Early Life Of Misery To Become A Very Happy Dog (VIDEO) 11th Jul 2014, by SPCA Singapore
Adopted doggies can be so happy that they wag their tails while asleep!
Frank the Dachshund was neglected as a puppy, whose then-owner thought he would die. He was locked outside the home, and fed only with ADULT dog food, shedding excessively and unbearably smelly. Plain unloved, his only friend was a torn blanket.
Then, his fortunes changed when Rafael Borges adopted him, at 5 months. Frank has become so cheery that he even wags his tail while asleep. He became deaf (due to an overlooked in...

Raju (the elephant) unchained, a new life unleashed.....
We are happy to share that, after a whopping 50 years of captivity, Raju is now all geared for his long-overdue second chance for a (much) better life. He's well treated - with both medicine and due care/nutrition - at the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre at Mathura, India.

Pet owners who are apartment-dwellers, please MESH UP!
Of late, we have witnessed a disturbing and rising trend of dogs and cats, from higher-floor households, falling to the ground - either gravely injured or meeting a premature death.
Such mishaps could have been avoided, had the owner also taken the NECESSARY precautions. As a general guide, we urge all pet owners to ensure that pet-proofing is in place – by ensuring the installation of proper grilles or wire-meshing on the windows (and...

Elephant Weeps While Being Rescued After 50 Years Of Mistreatment 8th Jul 2014, by SPCA Singapore
Raju, an elephant in India, breaks into tears....
as he is FINALLY set free after 50 years of being
- fitted with painful shackles, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
- possibly greatly malnourished;
- physically repressed;
and emotionally strained.
We, too, applaud the liberation of Raju from his keeper, made possible by UK-based animal charity, WIldlife SOS. But, we know no amount of gratitude from any one of us could even match that expressed by Raju - the very instant he sensed freedom at las...

SPCA rescues a mynah from canal's waters
We were alerted, at 5pm today (July 7, 2014), to a mynah spotted struggling in the running waters of a canal along Airport Road.
Our rescue pair, upon arriving at the scene, promptly used a netted catchpole, along with some strategy, to try to haul the bird out of its predicament. Apart from appearing to be shaken by the experience, the mynah is unable to flap its wings for the time being.
Our rescue van is in the midst of taking the mynah to the r...

Dog Bite Prevention Tip #4 (a fortnightly feature by SPCA)
- AVOID INAPPROPRIATE PLAY!
In this photo, the human is playing inappropriately with the dog. One’s hands, fingers and feet are not toys! The dog is clearly stressed – its ears are folded far back. If such inappropriate play continues, what started off as playful, or rough, play may lead to a bite.
Be polite to a dog. Learn to read its body language and take steps to help your dog be comfortable in every-day situations, through f...

Cat caught between higher-floor window pane and frame, in Marsiling
We were alerted, just yesterday noon (July 4, 2014), to a cat trapped between the window pane and sill of a 5th floor household of a block along Marsiling Lane. The cat - a grey/tabby local feline - does not belong to that household, and is suspected to be a community cat from that vicinity.
Our rescue pair, upon arriving at the scene, briskly used a catchpole, along with some strategy, to try to free the cat from its sticky...

Look who our Rescue Officer brought back, to one void deck along Petir Road!
Just last night (July 4), we brought a grey tabby back to where we rescued it from. The cat had a deformed left paw which our vets at SPCA examined and treated to some extent.
On hand to extend a welcome meow to it was its very companion from the same block, a ginger feline. We didn't manage to get Polaroid shots of the ginger's excitement at seeing its grey pal at first, but got a few pics of their mingling shortly...

It's JULY 4th, and we would like to give a shout-out to all our American volunteers, supporters and friends, for a meaningful and joyous 4th of July!
It's Independence Day in the U.S. (and we certainly don't mean the setting free or abandonment of companion animals), so even as our American pals celebrate with fireworks this very day, it certainly doesn't hurt to give KittyKat and/or Fido a warm, cuddly hug/kiss or two! Keep up the animal love!

Look what the stork, or SPCA shelter rather, brought in!
One of our hamsters, Mother Nature, has given birth to 4 bouncing babies (for now, named as the 4 Seasons - Autumn, Spring, Summer & Winter), earlier today (2nd July)!
Mother Nature, a Syrian Hamster, was found abandoned in Clementi West, in late June 2014. In our Animal Care Officers’ care, she has since been nursed to health, and is ready to do the same for her tiny toddlers!
Deserving a shout-out here, too, is one of our Animal Ca...
