Man Kicks A Cat And Sends It Flying Into The Air
10th Aug 2014, by SPCA Singapore

The New Paper online has featured a video showing a young man (in Ohio, the U.S.) kicking a cat, seemingly a deliberately executed and pre-meditated action to show his attempted abuse of the cat. The man, who was wearing green trousers and a black t-shirt, then turns around and violently kicks the cat sitting on the pavement. The hapless cat is then sent flying into the air. Thankfully, the cat got back on its feet and fled quickly from its aggressor. It is not clear if the cat is hurt. Outr...

…. And what better way to usher in National Day 2014, than to adopt an SPCA Local Mixed-Breed dog (or two), and celebrate national day with him/her/them! Our local mixed-breeds are our nation’s very own, and often come with their own unique, yet personable, traits! Whilst our local mixed-breeds are part of the big SPCA family, they’d still prefer to have their own forever families and homes. This National Day season, do make it extra special and meaningful by welcoming any of our sweet...

Glue Board Traps claim yet another victim…. And we appeal to all companies (including factories) to STOP using glue board traps! Just yesterday night (August 6, 2014), our rescue officers were despatched to Gul Circle, Jurong Industrial Estate, to rescue a distressed kitten stuck atop a glue board trap. Our team, with the caller's help, sought to get kitten freed from its predicament, relying on a fair extent of manoeuvring and a great deal of cooking oil to do the trick. The kitten was ru...

Japan Teen Murder Accused Kept Cat Head In Fridge: Report
7th Aug 2014, by SPCA Singapore

In Tokyo, a 16-year-old Japanese schoolgirl, suspected of murdering her classmate, has - in her own words - grown "bored of killing animals". She apparently kept a SEVERED CAT's HEAD in her fridge. This is yet another telling reminder of the strong link between cruelty to animals and human/criminal violence! Studies have revealed that people committing acts of cruelty to animals often don’t stop there — many of them move on to abusing their fellow humans. To read more, read the following: ...

SPCA rescues trapped bird from train’s tracks We were alerted, just the past weekend (August 3, 2014), to a bird spotted trapped under the MRT’s above-ground train tracks, in the vicinity of Tampines Street 21. The bird’s wings were caught within the narrow opening that divided the underside of the tracks. Our rescue pair, having appraised the situation, used an extension pole - along with some strategy - to nudge the hapless bird along the narrow opening. The bird had to be, suitably ...

We are sharing, with all here, our letter and note to the National Day Parade (NDP) 2014's Organising Committee and pertinent parties responsible for the production and publication of the NDP 2014 Discount Booklet (or "Fun Pack"). We have expressed our concerns over the message that the sale of puppies, and under a "0% interest instalment plan" as stipulated in the advertisement, would convey. We also thank our many facebook followers and commenters for having alerted us to this, and for havin...

Dog Bite Prevention Tip #6 (a fortnightly feature by SPCA) - AVOID PETTING YOUR DOG ON ITS HEAD, REPEATEDLY! In this photo, the child pets the dog on its head and the dog is clearly uncomfortable. It avoids looking at the child, its mouth is closed, its ears are pinned back and its body is stiff. Most dogs do not like being petted repeatedly on the head. Be polite to a dog. Learn to read its body language and stop your children from petting a dog on its head, especially one that’s unfamilia...

Cop Forces Man To Abandon His Elderly Blind Dog By The Road To Die
3rd Aug 2014, by SPCA Singapore

We would like to share how, in mid-July 2014, in Houston in the U.S., a police officer actually forced a man to abandon his elderly, BLIND dog, on the side of the road. Not surprisingly, of course, the dog, a 14-year-old Chihuahua that suffered from cataracts, had become hit by traffic and killed. On that fateful day, the owner of the dog had to be stopped by the police officer, while driving (with the owner’s friend and the Chihuahua in it). The man failed to use a turn signal while driving...
