Animal Cruelty: Up To S$100,000 Fine, Three Years’ Jail Proposed 7th Oct 2014, by SPCA Singapore
CHANGES TO THE ANIMALS & BIRDS ACT, announced in Parliament today (7 OCT, 2014)
And it has been announced that a person convicted for animal cruelty for the first time could be fined up to S$40,000 and/or jailed up to two years, while subsequent offenders could be fined up to S$100,000 and/or jailed up to three years, under proposed changes to the Animals and Birds Act.

Cat rescued from a ledge, this morning (7 Oct, 2014)...
A cat owner alerted us to her cat being perched, for some time already, on the ledge of her 4th storey apartment block in Bedok Reservoir.
Our Animal Rescue Officers, Cheryl and Dilun, relied upon a catchpole, strategically positioning the noose beneath the cat’s front limbs and then looping it around the middle. The cat was then hauled from the ledge inwards and into a cat carrier.

Yet another Happy Reunion, made possible by SPCA Officers, beyond work hours....
Off-duty SPCA Clinic Officer, Logeswary Singh, and her husband spotted this male Maltese left on its own, without a leash or its owner, along the main road of Yishun Ave 11, earlier today (5 Oct 2014).
Loges spent close to 45 minutes, following and 'befriending' the dog before winning its trust. She then managed to 'leash' it with her tote bag.

174 Australian Sheep Meant For Korban Ritual Did Not Survive Air Flight To Singapore 5th Oct 2014, by SPCA Singapore
We are deeply concerned about how and why 174 sheep imported from Australia for the Korban ritual to mark Hari Raya Haji have died during the SIA Cargo flight from Perth (as reported in The Sunday Times today (5 Oct 2014)).
This was indeed the first time ever that so many animal deaths had occurred in such a consignment.
We have written in to SIA Cargo to ask for a proper investigation.

Cat set free from a mouse trap, at Lichi Avenue (MacPherson)….
Earlier this morning (4 Oct 2014), we were alerted to a distressed cat caught within a mouse trap.
Our rescue officers, Eugene and Venga, arrived shortly after, and set out to free the cat from its ordeal.
The cat, suspected to be a community cat, sprang forth almost instantly after the trap was opened, and fled from the scene.

The Straits Times' "Home" Section reported today (Sat, 4 Oct, 2014), on page B10, that a private Bill will be introduced to change the laws on animal cruelty when Parliament sits on Tuesday (7 Oct, 2014).

Dog Found Covered In Tar Unrecognizable After Hours-Long Rescue 2nd Oct 2014, by SPCA Singapore
Speaking of animal rescues, Kudos to Animal Aid Unlimited (India) for spending hours, spread over 2 days, to free an exhausted dog from the encasing tar that covered his body. The dog was found stuck in tar spilled near a construction site.
"The poor dog had fallen into a pool of hot tar that smothered his body and had become rock-solid," according to Animal Aid Unlimited. "He was stuck to the ground and unable to move. A passer-by saw him struggling and called our help-line."

Distressed kitten rescued from a covered drain, in Lengkok Bahru….
Earlier this week, on the afternoon of 29 Sep 2014, we were alerted to a kitten, whose cries of distress were heard by our informer, and which was trapped in a covered drain.

Earlier this week, on 29 Sep 2014, it was announced that a Philippine couple (Vicente and Dorma Ridon) has been jailed FOR LIFE, for forcing young, scantily-clad women to torture or kill animals for the sexual gratification of online customers.

SUSHI the kitty, happily ever after!
Female, calico-coloured Japanese Bobtail kitten, Sushi, was adopted from our shelter on 1 Sep, 2014. She adjusted fast and very well, and all it took was a mere day for her to adapt and become toilet-/litter-trained.
Sushi also has become the best of friends with Hero, the family’s guinea pig. The dynamic duo are now bosom buddies!
