Bethany was seen in the vicinity of Lorong Ru 2, Farlim Bandar Baru Air Itam for 10 days. She was looking very thin and weak then. A good samaritan, Mr. Gan who lives in that vicinity has given her some food. Unfortunately, Bethany has no place to go and had to be brought in to the shelter this morning. Good Greetings to all!
The start of the New Year 2013 was not promising for us at all. In Jan, 202 cats and dogs were received/picked/collected. This figure comprised 66 cats and 136 dogs. 34 cats and dogs were surrendered by their owners. Only 5 dogs and cats were found forever homes in January. We urge all to help our charges find good homes. Please help to spread `DON'T SHOP, DON'T BREED, ADOPT', Thank you. SPCA TEAM.

This dog was picked up this morning from Taman Bukit Gambir, Glugor. She had been roaming in the vicinity for quite some time. SPCA was informed that with her presence, rubbish collectors refused to collect rubbish in that neighbourhood.
We need help to locate her owner so that she could be reunited. She is in the advanced stage of pregnancy and needs foster care. If you can recognise her owner, please alert SPCA at 2816559/016-4166559 during office hours. Thank you. SPCA TEAM

A good samaritan saved this female cat when he saw her trapped in a grill on the mid-span of Penang Bridge yesterday evening. She is now at SPCA. She was wearing the collar as shown in the photo and appears healthy. Do you know the owner - if so please contact us on 04 281 6559. Thank you.

A Happy Ending....
"Last year, talking to a friend she told us that there were some puppies in SCPA that needed a Foster family for a few weeks to help them to get stronger and happier.
Since we already have a female dog we hesitated at first but then went there the same day to pick her up. We followed all the directions that were giving to us and tried our best to not get too attached.

Hi Everyone,
If you had followed our LOST & FOUND blog on our website, dog below `Romy' was reported found lost by a good samaritan on 4th February.
Romy tried to adopt the `good samaritan' and followed him home while he was walking his dog along Lorong Mahsuri 3. Unfortunately, an extra one would be too many for one to commit sometime. Romy is now surrendered to the SPCA as of 9th Feb.

Pets given up by owners
As we begin drafting the 2012 Annual Report we notice some very worrying figures when it comes to the pets brought in to SPCA Penang by their owners during the year. Compared to 2011, we see a 20% increase in the number of dogs surrendered - bad enough - but a totally unacceptable 146% increase in the number of cats surrendered.
We cannot emphasize enough that taking on a pet is a major commitment - time, money, trust... and your love. Think it through before taking on ...

"My boyfriend and I (English couple) were visiting Penang and found out online about the SPCA shelter and emailed to see if we could pop by. We spent 2 days at the shelter walking the dogs and then a couple of hours each day playing with the younger dogs and puppies who could not be taken outside the shelter.
