Kuching, 6th October 2017
Maison Monica raised RM1,100 for SSPCA during the Intercultural Moon Cake Festival 2017 at Carpenter Street. They had a stall and did a RM2 haircut to members of public.

What would SSPCA Animazing Race 2017 be if without these wonderful people from Special Olympics and Salvation Army?
56 participants from both Special Olympics and Salvation Army are sponsored by good samaritans to join our run this Sunday. They will be running together with you at BCCK.

To better understand what it takes to run our animal shelter, let us give you an amazing insight to the work and dedication it takes to run a shelter.
On average how many animals do we take in monthly?

How many dogs do you have to turn away?
We have to turn away owner surrenders on many occassion as we are running full capacity. We have down 2-7 per day. Our priority is rescuing those unhealthy ones.

World Animal Day takes place on the Saint's day of Francis of Assisi. He was very fond of animals and godly monk. From his point of view even the smallest worm has to be seen as a creation of god and needs to be protected and honored. During his life he preached that animals are equal to humans and it is our sacred duty to protect them and treat them kind. That is exactly the basic idea of the modern World Animal Day.

The World Animal Day (WAD).
This is an international awareness day and puts the harm of animals caused by humans into the centre of attention. Often farm animals and pets are kept under bad conditions and neglected. It was Heinrich Zimmermann, a German-Jewish author, who made an application to initiate a day dedicated to animals, in 1931 on the convention of ecologists in Florence. He had fought for animal rights for many years. His suggestion had been effectuated in shape of World Animal Day.

Local dogs are often the dogs potential pet owners shy away. But being an owner of a handsome local dog named YangYang, I can personally attest to his sweet and loyal disposition.
As a rescue, YangYang was initially afraid of people and simple household items such as a broom stick. Olympic! Don't run! Today and tomorrow at Plaza Merdeka is just to collect race pack. Animazing Race is on next Sunday, 8th October 2017.
Remember to load your carbo on Monday, 2nd October too. Else you've got no energy to run.
Late registration for our AR2017 can be done at Plaza Merdeka and also during the Jazz Festival at Grand Margherita.

The SSPCA Animazing Race 2017 race pack collection will be at Level 1 Plaza Merdeka (Near Cotton On) on Friday 29th September 2017 from 12noon to 8pm and on Saturday 30th September 2017 from 10am to 6pm. Last minute registrations will also be accepted at that time.

The SSPCA 55th Anniversary Dinner is just around the corner! We still have seats and tables available for the dinner featuring comedian Douglas Lim on October 2nd at BCCK. Can Too Much Sun be Harmful to Dogs?
Humans get Vitamin D by being in the sun. The sun’s rays break down oil in our skin to create Vitamin D. It is then absorbed back into the skin and enters the blood stream.
Dogs have the same oil on their skin. Laying in the sun converts that oil to Vitamin D for dogs, as well. Unlike humans, however, Vitamin D isn’t absorbed back into your dog’s skin due to all his fur. When dogs lick their fur after sunbathing, they are ingesting their Vitamin D.
