The act of abandoning was performed by one of adopter's co-workers, and he regretted that his co-worker decided to act alone to abandone Lucky at our shelter. The adopter brought Lucky to his home and decided to nurt...

Abandoned Case
Every year before Chinese New Year, everyone starts to spring clean their houses, and that including their pet dogs.
It is sad to see this dog (Lucky, as the owner written its name), was tied to our shelter's fence. Lucky looked fierce and scare, because he was placed at an unknown place by his owner. Lucky is sick, and hence the owner decided to dispose him too.
We just couldn't understand, why some owners choose to send their sick dogs away rather nursing them back to health...

Why desexing is recommend?
Unwanted pregnancies
Desexing is recommeded to prevent unwanted pregnancies in female. This is especially important for cats and dogs. Desexing automatically stops the cycles and the associated bleeding and attention from male.
Undesirable behaviour
Castration helps to control male dominance aggression problems and also reduces their wandering instincts if a female in the neighbourhood is on heat.
Male has a tendency to roam and fight with others which can lead to o...

KUCHING: Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) is calling for proper legislation to regulate dog-breeding activities.
SSPCA president Datin Dona Drury-Wee, who made this call, said breeding farms should be properly registered and monitored to keep bad breeders at bay.

Symptoms & Types of Canine Rabies
There are two forms of rabies: paralytic and furious. In the early symptom (prodomal) stage of rabies infection, the dog will show only mild signs of CNS abnormalities. This stage will last from one to three days. Most dogs will then progress to either the furious stage, the paralytic stage, or a combination of the two, while others succumb to the infection without displaying any major symptoms.
Furious rabies is characterised by extreme behavioural changes, ...

Common myths of desexing your pet
'Females should have a litter before being desexed.' - This is not necessary for your pet’s benefit. Spaying a dog before her first heat will reduce the risk of mammary cancer to nearly zero. Every season/heat a female has, significantly increases her chance of developing mammary cancer.
“Desexing my pet will make him/her fat.” - By removing organs that produce hormones your pet’s metabolism may be slowed, overfeeding your pet will make it fat.
“Ani...

How Do You Test an Animal for Rabies?
Rabies is a disease that affects the nervous tissues, meaning that it's not found in blood, feces or urine. As you can probably imagine, this makes it quite difficult to test animals for the virus. To complicate matters further, potential testing outlets, such as saliva, don't yield results as quickly or as accurately as brain matter. Therefore, an animal's head must be removed, post-mortem, in order to gauge its infection status accurately. For more than...

As we are ushering the Year of Dog in less than a month from now, we are busy spring cleaning our houses.
Please spare some thoughts on the living things; the creatures created by Almighty God, that we brought into our houses and call them as pets. It is our responsibilities, as pet owners, to take care of them until their last breathe.
A number of residents in Kuching took the opportunities to call up councils' dog catching unit to get rid of their pets of many years. For so many years that ...

Rabies is a virus that may affect the brain and spinal cord of all mammals.
How Would My Dog Get Rabies?
Since animals who have rabies secrete large amounts of virus in their saliva, the disease is primarily passed to dogs through a bite from an infected animal.
It can also be transmitted when infected saliva makes contact with MUCOUS MEMBRANES or an OPEN FRESH WOUND. A lick by your vaccinated pet would not transmit to you.
The risk runs highest if your pet is exposed to wild animals. It is...
