Shocking Truths About What Is Going On In Sarawak 8th May 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
These are based on reports by people we know personally, encountered in our job at the shelter or witnessed with our own eyes. 1. Female animals, usually dogs, being killed in barbaric ways by so-called animal lovers who think that's the best way to control the population of strays. These include being drowned in sacks thrown into drains, lakes or rivers and also smashed onto the floor as newborn puppies since the gender for dogs is obvious from birth. 2. Animals being allowed outside uns...

Timmy! 5th May 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
My psycho office boy. He's quite attached to me now and will come over for lots of stroking BUT he's a real monster with other dogs especially during feeding time. BooBie tried to steal his food and ended up with a small wound on his face. Those of you who've seen BooBie will know how crazy Timmy is to attack a dog so much larger without hesitation. :D

The Story Of Myet 25th Apr 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
Myet was a Persian cat who was abandoned by her owner last year and dumped at a DBKU cage. She was brought to the shelter and we noticed that she had ear mites and some fur loss. She was subsequently spayed because a man expressed great interest in adopting her. All was fine for a few months until the man and his family moved to an apartment. One day, Myet decided to go out of the window to take a peek at the world below and the man accidentally startled her which made her leap down 3 stories. ...

Did anyone lose a young golden retriever last weekend? Someone has found one so please call the shelter at 082-618 200 or message Richard Lim for more details. Please do not ask to adopt it if it's not yours because the finder would like to keep it if the owner cannot be located.

The THREE Questions 23rd Mar 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
There are many people who insist that we accept their unwanted pets or healthy strays which they do not want around their area but none of them can answer all 3 questions. 1. How many of your friends and relatives own animals? 2. How many of these animal owners actually love their pets? Will spend money on giving them GOOD food, send them to vets when they're sick, allocate time each day to play with their pets, have families who love and support keeping pets, etc.. 3. And out of those w...

Updates On 9th Mar 2012 9th Mar 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
Many people send off their pets to the town councils knowing full well that they might be killed off but as long as the animals are not killed in front of them or they didn't kill the animals themselves, they're kind and caring animal lovers. And for those who claim ignorance that they didn't know the animals will be killed, Section 5 of The City of Kuching South (Dog Licence) By-Laws, 1990 states that any impounded animal which is not claimed with 48 hours from the issuance of the impounding no...

Updates On 27th Feb 2012 27th Feb 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
A job is only considered completed and the reward deserved when it's carried out from start till end. A cat hoarder called in the morning claiming to be an animal lover but wanted to hand over 50+ cats to the shelter. Got rude when asked why did she start hoarding in the first place and did not neuter them. It was obvious she considered her duties to the cats over when I mentioned that the shelter is full of cats which desperately need homes and may have to reduce the numbers by euthanasia.

What To Do When Bringing Animals For Vaccinations / Treatment 14th Feb 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
We had quite a few occasions when owners came from far away to the shelter to have their animals vaccinated or neutered and when asked about their pets' appetite and faeces conditon, lied that their pets were eating well and faeces were normal, ie. solid and slightly moist. Most of them did so because they did not want to have to come back another time but as a responsible and loving pet owner, please take note that it is VERY important that you tell the truth because injections like vaccin...
