What To Do If You Find Abandoned Little Puppies Or Kittens 2nd Jul 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
Do NOT panic. Panicking means you're just making a lot of noise and doing nothing.WATCH AND WAIT to see whether there's a parent around! Do NOT remove them immediately if they're not in any danger because the mother may get frightened off and you'll have caused them to become motherless. If the eyes are already opened and they can stand and walk about on their own, that's a good thing because there's a high possibility that they can eat on their own.If the eyes are n...

My Average Day - By Richard Lim 20th Jun 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
Daily1. Help to clean at least one zone of the shelter (Each zone ranges from 35 - 40 dogs to 50 - 60 cats, kittens and puppies) 2. Exchange emails with the committee to keep them informed of shelter situation. This is done intermittenly throughout the day. Most people don't realize that a shelter which costs over RM20,000 to run each month cannot depend on volunteers, a few paid staff and donation boxes alone. There are many things going on in the background to keep things alive and runni...

Over in Kuching, the SSPCA has a special relationship with the 3 town councils, MBKS (Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan), DBKU (Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara) and MPP (Majlis Perbandaran Padawan). Animals brought in by them are automatically transferred to the care of the SSPCA and becomes our property which saves them from CERTAIN death after 48 hours as is stated under MBKS' by-law of 1990, Section 5, The City of Kuching South (Dog License). For the other two councils, the animals are brou...

What To Do With Strays And How You Can Help 14th Jun 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
The truth about controlling the population of strays worldwide is that there is NONE. There is no sure way which we can use to curb population explosions or replenishing of animals other than with mass killings of every single animal on sight and even then, despite all the time, cruelty, pain and bloodshed, there'll still be strays around only that in the end, they'll become wary of human contact and breed out of sight, hiding their offspring from human eyes.As an animal lover, you can...

Allace having the time of his life lazing around everywhere. Looking at how relaxed he is, it's not obvious to anyone that there's an adult dog just a few steps away. He's not bothered by dogs and neither do my dogs bother about him.

For the first time, I'm happy to have an adopted animal returned to the shelter. "It's you, Timmy!!! You silly boy!!!" :D He bit someone who tried to grab him. Guess they didn't inform everyone in the household or ignored my advice not to try to grab him.

Shocking Truths About What Is Going On In Sarawak 8th May 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
These are based on reports by people we know personally, encountered in our job at the shelter or witnessed with our own eyes. 1. Female animals, usually dogs, being killed in barbaric ways by so-called animal lovers who think that's the best way to control the population of strays. These include being drowned in sacks thrown into drains, lakes or rivers and also smashed onto the floor as newborn puppies since the gender for dogs is obvious from birth. 2. Animals being allowed outside uns...

Timmy! 5th May 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
My psycho office boy. He's quite attached to me now and will come over for lots of stroking BUT he's a real monster with other dogs especially during feeding time. BooBie tried to steal his food and ended up with a small wound on his face. Those of you who've seen BooBie will know how crazy Timmy is to attack a dog so much larger without hesitation. :D
