Lulu's torn ligament has been assessed, and it's a relief for all of us that the tear is not too bad, however exercising the joint at the hip to ensure maximum range of motion is crucial while she recovers. She has to avoid stairs by all means. Fosterer/Adopter has to apply cold compression on surgery wound till the swelling goes down.We are also delighted that a group of young UM students has come forward to offer to foster Lulu while she recuperates! Updates On Daniel.... The Maggot Wound Dog 28th Sep 2013, by Second Chance
One of our volunteers went to the clinic to check on Daniel, vet said he has a good appetite and been eating a lot. However Daniel can be a snappy dog, well for a homeless dog, it could be due to the hard life he's had out there, or it could be the pain he's suffering from the wounds. He has a sad face, perhaps he still does not know what awaits him. We at Second Chance hope you get better soon Daniel, no more maggots, no more pain and no more suffering. Daniel has lost one ear becaus...

A Smelly Affair......Get Better Soon Daniel 27th Sep 2013, by Second Chance
This is our latest rescue. Daniel was found wandering weakly near the shelter area. When we got close to him, we were shocked to see the severity of its wound! He was thin and frail. We could see his eyes were running out of life. He must have been in a lot of pain as when Dr Calvin tried to check his wound, he would try to bite him. We thank Dr Calvin for his prompt action and withstanding the stench. The maggot wound smells like rotten flesh. His wound has been cleaned and it will take some ti...

3 Furkids Went For A Vet Visit 31st Aug 2013, by Second Chance
Our volunteer Pauline with Johnny and IreneIrene was brought in for her eye and skin check up. Both her eyes were getting opaque and she might lose her vision in time to come. This is most likely a born problem. Meanwhile some eye ointment can help slow down the vision loss process. Fido has a swelling in the chest area, the vet drew some liquid from the chest to examine. Vet confirms there is no infection and could be harmless if the swelling does not grow bigger. Fido was a little...

Phew! Peter Is Only Having The Flu 20th Aug 2013, by Second Chance
In any dog shelter, Distemper is one of the most dreaded and feared illnesses. So when Peter has a running nose, some eye discharge and a bit of cough, we were most concerned despite the fact that he has full and up-to-date vaccinations. As such, Dr Au recommended a distemper test just to rule it out . We are really relieved when the test came back negative albeit it having only 70% accuracy. You may see that Peter has some bluish hue to his fur. Fret not, it's just Magtox and iodine t...
