There are millions of stray, homeless animals across the world, immensely suffering from starvation, diseases, abuses and accidents, and most would never experience love and care during their short lifespan. Animal shelters are also severely inundated with strays, and thousands are euthanized daily due to the lack of space and resources.
In collaboration with Google's Kaggle, the world's largest community of data scientists and AI engineers, we have launched this global AI competition with the aspiration of devising creative and effective solutions to increase pet adoption rate. The competition will run from Dec 28th 2018 to March 28th 2019, with total cash prize of RM 100,000.
If shelters and rescuers can find homes faster for the stray animals, more precious lives can be saved. Although the data provided is specifically from PetFinder.my's Malaysian database, similar issues are prevalent across the world, and the solutions developed here would benefit global animal welfare.
With AI models that can more accurately predict adoption efficiency, we will develop a suite of AI tools that can be leveraged by global shelters and rescuers to analyze their online pet profiles, providing intelligent suggestions and insights on enhancing the appeal and effectiveness.
Top participants may be invited to collaborate on implementing their solutions into AI tools for assessing and improving pet adoption effectiveness, which will benefit global animal shelters and rescuers.
