Little Harlequin was found while meowing very loudly in a car park all by herself. She was quickly brought indoors and cleaned up. She's was not feeling so well, and was treated with medication.
We noticed she has a weaker right back leg which she sometimes dragged a bit. It was initially suspected to be a nerve issue and we tried to address it with nerve supplements. A few days after her rescue we were giving her a bath and a part of her tail fell off, exposing a gangrenous wound on her tail! An abscess on her right hind leg also ruptured.
We rushed her to the vet where they had to surgically remove the dead tissue on her tail and hind leg. A closer inspection of her hind leg, revealed a more serious issue – a large part of the tendon was missing which was why she dragging her paw. It possibly rotted away due to the injury, which might have happened a long time ago as the skin had grown over the missing tendon.
After consultation with an orthopaedic specialist, the best course of action recommended was amputation of her right hind leg. In addition, the infection on her tail continued to spread so amputation of her tail was required too. On 30th April, Harely was admitted for amputation surgery.
She is now back home and is relearning her way around her body as a tripod. She is definitely in less pain and finally acting more like a kitten. She is a strong and resilient girl who bunny hops, meows for food and head butts hands for extra pets. She's a real sweetie and you'll fall in love with her! Once she's a bit stronger, she will be vaccinated before adoption. We will give priority to applicants with an existing cat at home.
We do have a short application process. We also insist that all cats adopted from us be indoor cats and spayed/neutered when old enough.
