[Updates] We have identified a prospective adopter, thanks to Petfinder.my and Spike shall be going to new home in July 2021!

[Important Note] People who do not read his profile below, and people who comment PM and people who don't answer the adoption questions below will be ignored.

[For Adoption] 7YO male (neutered) Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is looking for a good home (without young kids). Spike the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier was adopted a few years ago and has always been a sweet boy. He is 16-18kg. Please read up on Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier before approaching us. They can live up to 15 years.

However, in recent months, he has been biting his family members (sometimes when they touch him or startle him). We suspect due to the changes in family (Human father suffered from stroke and family members had to attend to the father). Spike still enjoys his daily walk without issue. The children are studying and they do not have enough money to hire a trainer at the moment.

We have sponsored neutering and health check to make sure his aggression was not due to hormone related or health issue. Spike is healthy. We have met him and a fosterer took care of him for 3 weeks and could gain Spike's trust in just days. Spike has fear aggression and require patience and consistency in new home.

Hence, it is best if Spike goes to an experienced home. Spike can get along well with other dogs. They have another dog at home and Spike is alright with him. But, he gets quite defensive towards other dogs during his walk if he is not familiar with them. If you are keen to adopt, kindly write to us (send us a message) with the answers to the following questions. Please note that those who approach us to adopt but do not answer the questions will be ignored.

1. Please describe your experience handlings dogs (if any)
2. Please discuss with your family and let us know if they are agreeable and committed to rehabilitate a dog with fear aggression
3. Are you financially stable to cope with the feeding, medical and grooming needs of a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier?
4. Please describe the environment you will provide him with (e.g. landed, space to run, etc.)
5. How much time can you and your family spend with him daily?
6. Are you agreeable to home visit (scheduled) and sending us updates (photos/ video) every now and then?

Location: Kuala Lumpur

Shortlisted candidates will be sent to the current owner to screen through and arrange for meet up.

Loving dogs doesn't means you are a suitable owner. The poster have given lots of info about this dog behavior and its written clearly not suitable for people who have children at home as he got issues that needs time to rehab. People should really read properly before saying "I want"

Hi Yw1234, thank you for taking the time to write in. May I know if you are 14YO this year? If so, can you show the whole post to your parents to read, especially how Spike has bitten family members until bleeding, and if they are ok to rehabilitate him?

If they are OK, please click on my post to send a message to discuss further. Thank you for taking the time to read and answer all questions. Many failed to even answer the questions.

Hi Yw1234, so your mom said no to biting dogs. Spike bit owner until they need to go clinic. Alright. That is why it is important to ask your family first before writing to us. Thank you. May you find a more suitable dog to adopt.

Hi,
1. Had a German Shepard for 15 years. Had it trained under a trainer.Self grooming
2. Not a problem. Even though I will be the one mainly caring for it. I am very patient with dogs.
3. We are semi retired and doing our own business from home
4. We live in a landed property and there is an exercise park behind our house
5. I have plenty of time to spend with Spike as currently I spent 8 to 12 hours on my hp. Spike can accompany me for my daily walks
6. You will be more than welcome to visit Spike anytime and of course sending you updates are not an issue
7. If interstate is permissible, we can drive down to pick Spike, if not we are willing to pay for Spike’s transportation fees down to Penang.

For further information, feel free to pm me and I can give you my hp no. Thanks

Hi Mr. Richie Ong, sorry, Petfinder removed my full email in my previous comment. It is bartsanctuary[at] g mail. com and replacing [at] with alias symbol. :) Can I trouble you to send your email again, perhaps, from your SENT folder? Thank you and sorry for the trouble. You may also click 'Send Email' button on this post.

I just received a message from saying that my mails could not reach you cause you are receiving mails at a rate that prevents additional messages from getting through

Respect!! I had a dog just like this who bites when startled but is actually not aggressive. It is difficult to find owner who understands the temperament of dogs like these. I heard that they could have autism. Hope you find a good home for him as I managed to find a good home for mine after I got evicted from my landed home. Do look into handling dogs with autism. It might help prospective adopters. If it’s not physical health or hormones then it could be psychological.
