The fact that Flax is alive today and running around healthy and happily is already a miracle. He was born to mama Sunflower, the real runt of the litter. By the time they were all rescued, he was about 5 weeks old but only 200 grams, and he was already blind in both eyes due to a nasty eye infection.
Once he was indoors, received proper medical attention, and got to eat as much as he wanted, he started packing on the weight and becoming such a lively, confident, independent kitten! Flax is already super familiar with the ins and outs of the apartment, and he has no trouble navigating - no, zipping - through furniture, toys, and people. His sense of hearing and smell are extra sharp, and he also uses his whiskers to maximum effect that he even fearless jumps off chairs and sofas, no problem. Though he will never regain his vision, Flax can eat, drink, play, sleep and even use the litter box without assistance.
Little Flax is still the smallest, but he's the cuddle champ out of his siblings. He loves scaling his foster mom's shoulders to perch there and cuddle and purr. He's so loving and adorable, and deserving of a loving home. Flax doesn't let his blindness get the best of him, and neither should you! He is not considered a special needs cat, and does not need other special care for him to have a high quality of life. Flax will, however, need his dead eyeballs removed surgically to prevent future infections (a process called enucleation), which we can guide you through.
Flax would do best in a home with another cat, and he's also available for a pair adoption with his mom, Sunflower. Please give this brave little kitten a chance!
