NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE: 29 JULY 2016
This month, our 24-hr Wildlife Rescue Hotline received a call about a raptor whose foot has become tangled up in some netting at a driving range. The challenges were immense as we saw Ranger, a raptor, trapped at a height of around 15 metres above the ground.
Time was of the essence in the bid to rescue Ranger, with limited tools, time and manpower. Our heartfelt thanks go to Gabriel Cai and Lee Ann (to tag), our long term rescue volunteers, who were not even on duty that shift, but travelled all the way to perform the rescue operation safely. This meant that that the actual rescue team on shift could continue attending to other rescue cases.
It took Gabriel and Lee Ann nearly four hours to climb the pole safely (with a harness) and then climb down again. It was a tiring process, as the climbing involved arranging the foot holds one by one whilst ascending and descending.
Ranger couldnt wait to fly away, and took off before we could get some good photographs of him/her. Thankfully, Ranger did not suffer any injuries, and got help on time.
Our thanks go to the driving range staff for assisting us, and to the caller who was concerned about Ranger!
Please remember to call our 24-hour ACRES Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 9783 7782 for assistance if you see a wild animal in Singapore who may need some help.
Have a pleasant weekend everyone!
