6 STUDENTS FROM BARTLEY SECONDARY ARE TELLING US TO SHAKE IT UP!
Sanjita, Wynne, Cassie, Jia Yi, Becky and Stella took up their Values-in-Action (VIA) project – ‘Shake It Up’ – during the June holidays, discovering the goodness of cruelty-free drinks that are so refreshing to the taste-buds. They created 4 different smoothies that are dairy-free, and they are urging everyone to try them out too!
1. Tropics in a Cup
Ingredients: Apple Juice, frozen tropical fruits, orange, ice cubes
2. Bananalicious
Ingredients: Soya bean with almond milk, banana, honey, ice cubes
3. Summer in Hawaii
Ingredients: Carrots, apples, freshly squeezed orange juice, ice cubes
4. Peachy Pearadise
Ingredients: Mango, peach, pear, honey, soya bean with almond milk, ice cubes
Through this project, they learned about the cruelty involved in the dairy industry for both cows and their calves (read more here http://www.acres.org.sg/cruelty-free-living/what-is-cruelty-free-living.html?id=164 ).
They also managed to raise awareness about the availability of delicious dairy-free alternatives, so that more people realise how healthy and tasty being cruelty-free can be!
Quoted from the students’ reflections:
“Our actions can cause massive consequences to animals. Dairy-free recipes might sound impossible but we were able to create tasty and easy dairy-free smoothies. Not only that, these smoothies can be drunk by anyone – vegetarians, non-vegetarians and even those who are lactose-intolerant. Dairy-free smoothie is a universal smoothie which everyone will definitely love.”
