World Pangolin Day

ACRES would like to celebrate this day – by sharing with you a rescue video of one of the most endangered animals in the world!
Here, we see, Sally, a Sunda Pangolin (Manis javanica), slowly finding her bearings as we herded her to an environment that is finally familiar to her. It may seem insignificant to us, but this would mean a safe night to Sally.
She was found wandering around on the small roads near a residential area that was adjacent to her habitat, probably disoriented from the unfamiliar structures.
We receive many cases of pangolins accidentally wandering into our man-made structures. Sadly, not all of them survive, with many of them becoming road kill victims. Sally here is one of the lucky ones, thanks to the kind soul who gave our Rescue Hotline a call.
Around the world, pangolins are also illegally trafficked in horrifying conditions for their scales (for medicinal properties) and flesh (as a delicacy) making them one of the most endangered group of mammals in the world.
As we celebrate World Pangolin Day, let us be extra careful when driving near forested areas, and pledge against traditional medicine that contains pangolin parts (or any wildlife), so these beautiful creatures like Sally can continue to survive in their habitats!
