WILD ADVENTURES WITH ACRES OUTDOORS 🌿🦎

On 20th December 2023, our education team conducted ACRES Outdoors, an outdoor education programme aimed at helping children learn how to behave around wild animals in order to be safe and not scare them away. Held at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, a RAMSAR designated site of international importance, the focus was to empower the children with knowledge on wildlife etiquette. Sungei Buloh with its coastal forest, freshwater ponds and mangrove swamps allowed opportunities for the group to have an exciting and responsible nature walk. They spotted many interesting plants and animals, including sea holly, sea almond, sea hibiscus, mangrove trees with different kinds of breathing roots, buloh plants, zanzibar yam, spiders, butterflies, dragonflies, two estuarine crocodiles, several large Malayan water monitors, an oriental whip snake, a terrapin, various snails, spiders, tadpoles, squirrels, bats, fish such as mudskippers, mullet, archer fish, tilapia, snakeheads, mayan cichlids, halfbeaks, the todak or needlefish from the story of Bukit Merah (Red Hill), egrets, storks, herons, kingfishers, and white-bellied sea eagles. According to the kids, the most enjoyable part of the activity was seeing animals like schools of fish in the river and reptiles.
