OUTREACH FOR A SAFER AND KINDER SPACE FOR ANIMALS
Many of you may remember the case in April 2023, of a python who was brutally killed at Boon Lay Market & Food Centre by a group of people, who cheered on, posting a video of the act. On 4th August 2023, our #WildlifeRescue team attended to another case, where a python was tied up tightly to a sign post at 187, Boon Lay Ave. The call came from concerned members of public, who were deeply worried for the python who couldn’t move. Thankfully, this python did not suffer any injuries, and has since been released back into the #wild.
While @NParksBuzz is investigating both these cases for killing a protected wild animal and cruelty, we are grateful for the support from the @peoplesassociation and Minister @desmondtslee Desmond Lee, when we reached out for an outreach opportunity at this hotspot. Together with @catwelfaresg, @herpsocsg, PA’s Youth Wing and ACRES, #OurWildNeighboursSG campaign conducted a weekend roadshow outside the food market.
It was an impactful event, where our #Volunteers engaged several passersby, relating to their experiences, fear and having the much needed conversations – all towards creating a safer and kinder space for the animals in our community – from wildlife to cats!
Driven by misconceptions and unwarranted phobias, many snakes and reptiles are getting hurt in our #CityInNature! We will continue to push for education, which will serve as a bridge towards #coexistence, at the same time enforcement to serve as a deterrence to end #animalcruelty !
