Duo Claim Trial To Animal Cruelty Charge In Dog Bludgeoning Incident

GEORGE TOWN: Two men have been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly bludgeoning a dog to death.
Rosli Mat Zin, 53, and Suhaili Haron, 49, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Sessions judge Mohammad Khalid Ab Karim here on Friday (July 14).
Based on the charge sheet, fisherman Rosli and bus driver Suhaili were charged with hitting a dog in a drain at around 8.30pm on July 8 at Kampung Teluk Tempoyak in Batu Maung here.
They were charged under Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 which carries a penalty of up to three years’ jail, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both upon conviction.
The charge was read with Section 34 of the Penal Code for a criminal act committed by several persons with a common intention.
Mohammad Khalid set bail at RM1,000 for each accused and ordered them to report to the police station closest to their respective homes on the first of every month pending disposal of the case.
Case mention was set for Aug 16.
It was reported that a black mongrel was bludgeoned to death after purportedly getting run over by a motorcycle.
